Todays painting.👩🏼‍🎨

In chaos of raising a small kids, God asked me to give away my sewing machine. When I would lock in on a project, designing & creating, the whole world would fall away. Stopping to answer my kids or mediate or even feed them would make me so internally combustible. 🤬 House chores were cast aside, television went on repeat and cereal boxes were snack containers. Everything was breaking down except my creative self.

One night my husband returned home from a long day of work. As he drove up the driveway, he could see that the whole house was dark, except for a blue light coming from the living room. When he stepped through the door, his children were glued to the TV with their hands in cereal boxes. “Where is your mother?“ he said. They didn’t know.

I had been holed up in my sewing room for hours since they had gotten up from their naps. He came to find me and I was shocked to realize that it was already dark outside. I completely lost track of time.

In a very gentle way, he didn’t attack me or shame me. He just asked me if this is the kind of mother I wanted to be to our kids. I could tell he was disappointed. And frankly I was disappointed in myself because I had been feeling like I’ve been over the line for quite awhile. That night I repented in my soul and God offered me a new plan. Not one to modify my behavior, but to cut it cold turkey.

Would I give away my sewing machine, if he would give me back the time in the future? I trusted him. Out it went. He helped me be the most intentional, present momma I could have ever imagined. My kids don’t remember that other mom ( two of them weren’t even born yet). Fully available, always listening (except when I am on the phone with my sister) and ever ready to comment and teach them creativity. For years.

Now the house is quiet. Each of them have found their soulmate and started their families. My husband got to go be with Jesus.

God is faithful. He kept his promise. I am immersing myself in projects, getting lost in creativity and enjoying it. Thank you Lord for helping me put things in proper season. Ecclesiastes. by @officialrobinkmoore

Marlboro Man was a good friend of mine. I’d give anything to go back in time. Listen to his stories and take some advice. They say that the legends, they never die.

“There is a way that seems right to a (wo)man…”.

I naturally possess a limited, self-focused, or fallen perspective. It is easy for me to justify my own desires, pride, or poor choices and genuinely believe I am on the correct path. Cactus country.
🌵🌵🏜️
Feeling that a choice is “right” in the moment does not make it objectively good or safe. Choosing a prickly path and doggedly sticking to it can be thorny. Cactus country.
🌵🌵🏜️
Proverbs warns that when warning that when my paths are guided purely by human will or pride, they lead to ruin, spiritual separation, or destruction rather than life and peace.

Biblical wisdom contrasts self-reliance with humility, urging me to align my daily choices with God’s standard rather than my own feelings. And to leave Cactus Country in the sketchbook as a reminder.

Artist SHL0MS sparked a frenzy on X over a post that presented a real image of a painting by famed impressionist Claude Monet as AI-generated, sparking critiques of the work and shining a mirror on anti-AI bias seen in the creative world.

The details:
SHL0MS posted that he generated the image in the style of Monet, asking users to describe why the "AI image" is inferior in as much detail as possible.

The post received thousands of responses calling the image ‘emotionless’, ‘slop’, and critiquing specific features like depth, reflections, and composition.

The image was an image of a real Monet, identified as from his Water Lilies collection from around 1915.

The saga aligns with 2024 research, with Norwegian researchers finding people actually prefer AI art but show a clear negative bias against it.

Why it matters: This Monet-gate was one painting, but the reflex it exposed runs through the entire creative world right now. For a growing crowd, the word 'AI' alone triggers backlash regardless of context — and that knee-jerk hostility is only growing as the tech changes the world around us and embeds deeper into everyday life.

Messing around with the paints again to clear my head. Watercolor slows everything down and forces you to be slow.

Watercolor can be tricky. You float little granules of pigment in a water solution and hope they settle close to where you intended. A translucent effect requires layers of these waterlogged granules, yet each layer can disturb the one beneath it if you don’t use enough water to float them. It is kind of like stirring sediment on the bottom of a pond. It can get murky. @artisticisle.watercolor paints are so rich and vibrant that it makes you want to keep layering. I love them.

Always a privilege to be in the magnificent Hall of State building, and extra special treat to be ushered privately into a hidden room to view the “behind locked doors” display of the Battle of the Alamo by artist Thomas F. Feely, Jr. which took years to build so historically accurate. The photos don’t do justice to the scale of this piece. What a labor of love! What a treasure to behold.
