The artist’s ceramic works enter into dialogue with the design pieces and architecture of the Milanese apartment, bringing together distinct sensibilities through a shared exploration of materials and their expressive potential.

Vases and totems become part of the domestic setting, shaping an intimate, sensory journey that explores the relationship between material, memory and belonging.

Andile Dyalvane (1978, South Africa) wins the Main Prize of Officine Saffi Award, 6th edition - Forms of Belonging.

The Jury awarded Dyalvane the €10,000 acquisition prize for "iThwasa (The One Who is Blossoming)", recognising the work’s exceptional presence and a formal and symbolic language that speaks directly to the theme of this edition, Forms of Belonging.

Rooted in ritual and in a deep bond with community, the work — created together with his wife, Nkuthazo Alexis Dyalvane — takes on the presence of a body: a container of memory, identity and lineage. Surreal and quietly unsettling, it appears at once deeply grounded in reality and otherworldly, both ancestral and contemporary. The work affirms the ability of ceramics to hold collective memory and a sense of belonging that is at once personal and shared.

Bringing together the works of all 28 finalists, Forms of Belonging opens at Fondazione Officine Saffi in Milan on September 30 and runs until November 13, 2026.
The exhibition is presented under the patronage of Ministero della Cultura e Comune di Milano.

Fondazione Officine Saffi worked with artist Lina Lapelytė @linalapelyte and Tate Modern @tate on “Serendipity Island”, conceiving and producing the ceramic sculptures that carried the scores for the partecipatory performance, presented in the Turbine Hall.

“Serendipity Island” transformed the space into a collaborative stage, inviting visitors to move, make sounds and respond to a series of actions that gradually came together into a shared composition.
The ceramic sculptures formed part of this evolving choreography, acting as physical supports for the scores and contributing to the encounter between object, gesture and performance.
Through play, chance and collective action, the performance explored how individual sounds and movements can come together to create something shared.
