Workshops are live. Mostly! I really wanted my Off Queen website to be live this week. Sadly there’s nothing I can do to make that happen😢. Which is why I’m so thankful that you’re reaching out via DM and email to book your workshop spot🙌🏼🩷🥰. These are all open session workshops meaning you pick the date! Workshop sessions are in the afternoons, from 1-4:30pm, for now. But please reach out for more information on dates and times. We had an excellent block print and paint workshop on Tuesday, despite losing power during the storm. 😬 I’m deeply thankful to Cate for letting me share a few pictures of her Block Print and Paint Workshop. Three weeks!! I’m still standing. Mostly 😁😉But things in the shop & studio just keep getting better. We have a few more artists bringing their work to the shop. But I think it’s all looking pretty lovely already. The studio is coming along nicely and mid-summer workshops are going into inventory daily. Sadly, our website changeover it taking some technical finessing yet. It will come and will be added to the list of things accomplished 🙌🏼🎉🥳. Have a great Sunday and Monday. Thanks for the gentle reminder. In all the business of getting the shop ready to open and welcome you, it seems I forgot a few important details. Like letting people know when the Shop & Studio are open .😁 Located at 15 Burnham Street in Lakefield, Ontario, Off Queen is open Tuesday 12-4, Wednesday to Friday 10-4 and Saturdays 10-5. Happy Canada Day! While Off Queen is closed today, I want to wish you a happy day of celebrating all the good and beautiful of being Canadian. We can hold simultaneous truths; we have a lot to work on and we truly have a lot to celebrate 🎉 🇨🇦. As an Indigenous owned Fine Craft Shop & Studio, I’m honoured to represent Canadian artists and craftspeople who share our ethos of a more sustainable creative practice that has a conscientious approach to environmental care. Some mornings you just have to take your tea and drive out to the main road to watch the sunrise. I’ve photographed this field regularly over the years. Each time it brings a decidedly different kind of beauty. As I drive home from Off Queen, I’ve been watching the Vipers Bugloss deepen to a swath of brilliant violets and pinks. This morning I took my tea and watched the sunrise over the field. I knew it would be a magical yet fleeting moment of exceptional beauty. Happy Sunday. I’ll be in the studio for a bit today with all the little things that still have to be done. So. What’s this new name ‘Off Queen’ all about? Over the last three years I was often told ‘oh this place is amazing’ when people came into my gallery at 15 Burnham Street. With the qualifier, “but you’d do so much better if you were on Queen”. Instead of rolling my eyes, again, I developed my reply, “well, it’s pretty nice off Queen. We’re just steps around the corner from Queen Street. But we have dedicated parking and beautiful gardens in summer tended by our super supportive landlords, in a gorgeous old stone building that’s naturally cooler in the summer. What more could you ask for?” LOL. Yes it’s a long response. But the great part of that was truly loving being just “off Queen”. When I was thinking of my new shop name, I knew it had to be “Off Queen’. Off Queen is a fine craft shop and studio space located at 15 Burnham Street in Lakefield Ontario. My new studio space is still the home of Stoney Lake Textiles. I just have a bigger space to make more messes and my studio is out of my house… finally… only after ten years. But one of the best parts, is that I also get to share the gorgeous works created by 27 of the most amazing fine craft artists that I just happen to have the good fortune to know. My little shop is the meeting point of artists from across Canada but primarily from Ontario and most of them local to our area. As I introduce you to everyone-I have still have a few artists works to add here-over the coming weeks, I do hope that you get the chance to pop in and see their work for yourself. Our workshops and clubs also launch in July. My daughter Steph came for our Off Queen opening this weekend and took this ‘after’ picture at end of the day 😜😁. I have to say though, the long days and hard work getting everything ready to welcome you was so worth all of it. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks for stopping by to say hello. Thanks for bringing a sassy raven painting, lovely plants, cookies and cupcakes Huge thanks for the biggest smiles and the best hugs. Thank you for supporting my artists. 🥰 All of it made for the bestest special day. I may have been too tired to form complete sentences, but I so appreciate your words of encouragement and support. I love that I still get to be a part of this community and share my love for all things craft, art and learning.Today we celebrated. We went to a small brewery on Belmont Lake. I got to put my feet in the water and sit on the dock in the sun with my loves. The last time I opened a shop I had three months to get it ready. This time, I had three weeks and I’m not even close to ready! And just like that I’m officially in countdown mode! Only 9 more days! 9 more days of cleaning, painting, more cleaning, arranging displays, populating inventory, re-arranging the displays again and figuring out every single last minute detail that likely will never be done after the doors are open! And then I get to invite you to come visit. Only 9 more days. Sometimes it feels like forever. Sometimes it feels like not nearly enough time to get it all done. But it’s fine! Oh no!! I’m not closing Stoney Lake Textiles. It’s true, I did put my website on pause while i take the time I need to open a brick & mortar shop with a studio space. But that means I now have a bigger (mostly) studio space to make epic textile messes. My shop won’t be open Mondays and part of Tuesdays to give me dedicated studio time to make even more Stoney Lake Textiles slow-made goods. My website will open rebranded to work more fully aligned with my shop name. It feels a bit chaotic at the moment but when it all comes together it will be a thing of beauty. It’s all coming along just fine.
