Manasa and Meghna started Off The Shelf in 2024 after realising that Hyderabad is in need of a new bookstore.

While there were several bookstores in the city during their childhood, the advent of online shopping and the internet had slowly eroded those stores over the years. A recent renaissance of reading amongst kids and adults alike made them realize that there is a need for a space to browse and discover new books. And they both decide to act upon this and took the decision to open Off the Shelf, located the Loft in Hitech City.

The store is a vibrant and inviting space that draws in people to come and go through their selection of books. With a range of genres available along with a curated collection of stationary products, the store is a space where booklovers can spend time in leisure and discover new titles.

While both Manasa and Meghna have different full time professions, they devote a good amount of time into store - to curate the experience of the customers, update the collection of books, add new stationary products, and ensure that everyone who visits the bookstore will find a book that interests them.

It is always inspiring to see residents of Hyderabad take the initiative to do something that adds to the cultural milieu of the city!

This Navratri, we’ve gathered books that help little ones understand why we light the lamps, why we dance, why we we honor instruments, who Durga really is and what Rama’s victory was. Because the best traditions are the ones children understand, not just follow.

Come find one to read together this season.

This year’s Booker shortlist moves from 1988 Kingston to the Outer Hebrides to election-year Massachusetts. Two former winners, one debut, and an 81-year-old who could become the oldest winner ever.

Different worlds, same quiet question: how well do we really know the people closest to us? Secrets kept for decades, things left unsaid, lives lived half-hidden.

The judges called them “very human books.” Pick your contender before the winner is announced on 9 November.

Artie seems to have it all: a long marriage, students who adore him, weekends spent sailing. Inside, he’s coming apart, and he can’t tell a soul. Set in coastal Massachusetts as the 2024 election looms, this is Strout at her best: ordinary people and the grief they never put into words.

Pulitzer winner Strout is on her fourth Booker nomination. Maybe this is her year.

A museum curator recreating a medieval palace becomes absorbed in a forgotten king who never wanted the crown. Moving between her life and his court, this is a quiet, enchanting novel about how history gets pieced together, and who gets to tell it.

The only debut on the shortlist, and already winner of the Waterstones Debut Fiction Prize.

Kingston, 1988. Eight men rehearse what’s billed as Jamaica’s first openly gay play, until a mob attacks and one of them is killed. The survivors must choose between moving on and getting even. It’s told in many voices, and it’s brutal, tender and unexpectedly funny.

James won the Booker in 2015 for A Brief History of Seven Killings. This could be his second.

An out-of-work actor takes a job sitting silently in a black bag at the back of a lecture hall. For science. Then the bag starts taking over his life, and his streamer flatmate wants to monetise it.

Zadie Smith calls it the funniest and smartest novel she’s read in a while. We’d argue it’s also the only Booker contender you could dress up as for Halloween.

Cal comes home from art school to the Isle of Harris, to a devout father, a peacekeeping grandmother, and the disapproval he thought he’d left behind. But his father has been keeping a secret of his o by @offtheshelf.india

Nupur is back at Off The Shelf with another session, and this one’s a festival favourite. 🪔

Devi and The Squirrel lets kids truly live the stories of our gods and goddesses through music, dance and play. No lectures, just a fun, musical dive into Navratri: the nine nights, the forms of Durga, and lesser-known tales from the Ramayana.

Every festival has a story behind it. Children who know those stories carry their culture with them, and they celebrate with a lot more meaning (and a lot more questions).

The best things in life are free. But we can’t make the books free. So we made the second-best things free instead. A bookmark to hold your place when life interrupts, wrapping paper because every good book deserves a reveal, and a tote with a little piece of Hyderabad sketched on it to carry it all home. Because buying the right book should feel as good as reading it.

Marg has been India’s art magazine of record for nearly 80 years. Mulk Raj Anand started it in 1946 to create a socially engaged language for art. It has kept that promise through temples, textiles, film, and now the street.

Street Art, the June 2026 issue edited by Sanchita Khurana, looks at graffiti, murals, and public performance in the Indian city. It covers the legacy of the late Hanif Kureshi (Daku), the “slice of life” Mumbai film, and the uneasy line between vandalism and “beautification.”

The walls have been talking for a while. This is the transcript.

We love Marg on our shelves. Come pick up your copy before the walls get repainted.

Sonia Gandhi has been written about for thirty years — dynasty heir, reluctant politician, the woman behind the party. In Belonging: A Journey of Love, she finally writes back. The book made headlines before a single copy hit shelves— proof that some books start a conversation before you’ve even opened them.

Pre-order your copy at Off The Shelf.

Design isn’t decoration, it’s decisions. Bruno Munari breaks that down to its bones in Design as Art, Don Norman explains why some doors confuse you and others don’t, and Irene Pereyra’s Accessible Design is a reminder that good design has to work for everyone, not just the people it was easiest to imagine.

Then there’s the messier, more human side of it — Rick Rubin on creativity as instinct, Austin Kleon on borrowing well, Julia Cameron on getting unstuck, Marion Deuchars on making things with your hands again. Aaron Draplin’s Pretty Much Everything is what four decades of stubborn craft looks like when you put it all in one book, and Grant Snider draws the whole absurd, satisfying process better than most of us could explain it.

Typography, illustration, accessibility, ego, discipline — this shelf covers all of it. Come pull one out and dive in.
