🎭 SINOPSE
Figura é um espetáculo de improvisação teatral no qual atores e atrizes criam cenas a partir de estímulos visuais. Fotografias, pinturas e ilustrações viram história, cenário e personagem. A cada cena, uma nova imagem ganha vida no palco, da tela para a vida, em um processo de criação acompanhado pelo público em tempo real.

👤 Gabriel Caropreso é palhaço, ator, improvisador e músico. Profissional das artes há 20 anos e professor há 8, já passou por instituições como Espaço da Comédia, Teatro dos Arcos e Improclube, e foi membro fundador do coletivo Quase Todos, vanguarda na pesquisa da improvisação teatral em SP. No cenário internacional, representou o Brasil no Irreverente 2025, em Lisboa, e no Swedish International Improv Festival, em Uppsala, e realizou uma turnê europeia com o espetáculo "Eagerly Waiting" — co-criado com a improvisadora grega Maro Lesioti e estreado simultaneamente no Brasil e na Grécia. A turnê passou por Tessalônica, Barcelona, Oslo e Uppsala e incluiu a ministração da oficina FIGURA em Barcelona, Tessalônica e Colônia.

As improvisers, we have a responsibility to challenge injustice and not allow our stages to normalise oppression through silence. As the genocide in Palestine continues alongside settler-colonialism, apartheid, and military occupation, neutrality is not an option.

Back in the rehearsal room. 🇬🇷

Yesterday, the Greek team met again.

It’s almost a year since Eagerly Waiting began, and it’s a strange feeling to return to the same exercises, the same but also some new people, the same questions… while realizing that none of us is quite the same anymore.

Between then and now, there have been premieres, a European tour, workshops, festivals, hundreds of conversations, and countless hours of discovery. The work has travelled, and so have we.

Now we return carrying all of that back into the room.

One more exciting piece of news: our Eagerly Waiting Playbook is officially on its way and is scheduled for release this winter. We’re looking forward to sharing not only the performance, but also the methodology, dramaturgy, and creative process that shaped it from the very beginning.

The journey continues. ❤️

Every show has a dramaturgy. Even the things the audience doesn’t consciously notice are telling the story.

When we were creating Eagerly Waiting, one of our central themes was absence. That meant asking not only what happens?, but how can the audience feel it?

Some of the dramaturgical tools we explored were:

• Physicality – How close or far apart are the bodies? How do they move? What happens when they can’t touch?
• Space – Where are the performers? What does each area of the stage represent?
• Music & sound – What emotional world do they create? When does silence speak louder?
• Light – What is revealed, hidden, or isolated?
• Objects & scenography – What do they symbolize? How do they transform throughout the performance?
• Rhythm & pacing – Where does the audience have time to breathe? Where does tension build?
• Language – What is spoken, what is left unsaid, and what is repeated?
• Rules of the world – What can and cannot happen? These invisible rules shape everything.
• Transitions – How do we move between realities, memories, and emotional states?
• Absence itself – Sometimes what isn’t on stage is just as important as what is.

Dramaturgy isn’t only about structure. It’s about making every artistic choice point in the same direction, so the audience doesn’t just understand an idea, they experience it.

Why don’t the characters touch in the virtual space?

One of the dramaturgical decisions we made while creating Eagerly Waiting was that physical touch doesn’t exist in the virtual world.

The virtual space isn’t meant to imitate reality. It’s a poetic space — somewhere between memory, imagination, longing, and possibility.

The absence of touch makes every attempt to connect more visible. It reminds us that closeness isn’t always physical, and that distance isn’t only measured in kilometers.

Sometimes, not being able to reach someone says more than an embrace ever could.

Every rule in the world of a performance should exist for a reason. This was one of ours.

📚 FIGURA é uma oficina-montagem que usa imagens — fotos, ilustrações, pinturas figurativas e abstratas — como ponto de partida para cenas improvisadas. Ao longo do processo, os participantes aprendem a extrair personagens, ambientes e narrativas das imagens, mergulhando nos detalhes visuais para encontrar "o ouro" que conduz a cena de forma orgânica. A jornada passa por experimentações com foto-novela, histórias em quadrinhos e a criação de imagens cênicas oníricas — ampliando o vocabulário criativo além das palavras. O processo culmina na montagem e apresentação do espetáculo FIGURA, um espetáculo de improvisação teatral criado a partir de sugestões imagéticas inéditas aos improvisadores.

How do you rehearse an improvised show when your teams are on different continents?

Here is part of our process while creating Eagerly Waiting between Athens and São Paulo:

1. Start with the premise.
Before exercises, structures, or scenes, we asked: What is this show about? What questions are we exploring?
2. Identify the needs of the show.
What skills, themes, relationships, and aesthetics does this piece require? The form came from the needs of the show, not the other way around.
3. Build a shared digital workspace.
Jitsi for weekly meetings (free and open source)
Milanote for brainstorming and organizing ideas
Google Drive for documents and materials
WhatsApp for daily communication
4. Design rehearsals intentionally.
Each week, we created exercises and rehearsals specifically for the questions we wanted to explore, then compared the results between Athens and São Paulo.
5. Keep adapting.
The process changed constantly. The discoveries of one week became the starting point for the next.

Distance was not a limitation. It became part of the methodology.

Not every part of the road is exciting.

There was a day during this tour that felt heavier than the others.
A day of exhaustion, uncertainty, and questions.

And now, looking back from where we are today, we realize that some difficult days do not end when the trip ends. They simply change shape.

We often share the performances, the cities, the people we meet, the beautiful moments. But there are also moments when things feel fragile. Moments when you wonder if you can keep going.

This reel is about those days, then and now.

Because making independent work is not only about movement and adventure. It is also about carrying doubts, responsibilities, and fears alongside the joy.

And perhaps the hardest days become easier when we allow them to be seen.

The road continues. ❤️

Last stop of the tour was Uppsala.

People often ask us what we remember most from a journey like this.
The shows? The cities? The kilometers?

Sometimes it’s something much smaller.

Someone inviting you for coffee.
Then preparing breakfast.
Then lunch.
Then reading your grief.
Then giving advice.

Unexpected generosity from people who, a while ago, were strangers.

Maybe this tour was also about that.

What do we actually do?

Over the past months, through our tour across Europe, we’ve been building spaces for performance, learning, and exchange.

Our work includes:
