Deeply honoured and grateful to receive the Black Business Leader Award at the 2026 Impact Gala. ❤️ For me, this is bigger than an award. It is an affirmation that the work we are doing matters, and that the people we are serving matter. What excites me most is the ripple effect. I hope every Black woman, newcomer, immigrant, mother, or professional navigating change who sees this remembers: There is room for you too. Your dreams are valid. Where you are today does not have to limit where you can go. I’m so grateful to my family, especially my husband who was right there with me to receive the award, my amazing team, the humans of Verisult, my superstar students and alumni, and everyone who has supported, encouraged, recommended, and opened doors for me along the way. Above all, I give God all the glory. Thank you to the @fbcfcn for this recognition and to @bfncommunity for sponsoring the award. If one woman sees this and thinks, “Maybe I can do it too,” then this recognition has already created an impact far beyond me. ❤️ #ImpactGala2026 #BlackBusinessLeader #BlackWomenInLeadership #RepresentationMatters #Leadership Impact by @ogagajohnson

10 years ago, I didn’t even know Project Management was a career. Yesterday, I was honoured to be named Project Manager of the Year by Project Management Institute - Newfoundland and Labrador. "This award honours individuals who have demonstrated exemplary leadership, strategic thinking, and commitment to project management excellence. Consistently delivering successful outcomes and inspiring their teams to achieve beyond expectations". For me, it’s deeply personal. I’m grateful to God for leading me by the Holy Spirit into Project Management back in 2015. A girl with no formal Project Management degree. Yet, God led, taught, and guided me through every step. Being recognized as Project Manager of the Year here in Newfoundland and Labrador is profoundly significant to me as an immigrant. To every immigrant reading this: your career dreams are valid, you are valid, and you can rise to the very top. My project management journey in Newfoundland and Labrador has taken me through incredible organizations Bluedrop, C-CORE, Canada’s Ocean Supercluster, Verisult, and econext Each providing opportunities to lead impactful projects and grow as a leader. I’m deeply thankful to every team I’ve worked with, every mentor who believed in me, and every organization that trusted me to deliver multimillion-dollar projects even when I had no “Canadian experience.” I'm grateful to my husband. I struck gold with him. He is the best spouse ever. This recognition isn’t just mine. It’s for every immigrant who keeps showing up, every project manager who leads with purpose, and everyone who believes excellence speaks louder than barriers. #ProjectManagement #Leadership #CareerJourney #ImmigrantSuccess #PMINL #Gratitude #WomenInLeadership #ProjectManagerOfTheYear by @ogagajohnson

As a child born in the 90s in Nigeria, every other career except medicine (Doctor) or engineering led to no future ambition (NFA). I definitely wasn't doing medicine because I didn't like biology or blood. The next career was engineering since I loved math. I decided to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering because I wanted to be part of the electricity solution in Nigeria (a girl can dream). When I graduated, I felt like I didn't have enough knowledge or skills to make an impact in the energy situation in Nigeria, so I went ahead to study Sustainable Energy Systems for my masters degree. I got introduced to Sustainable Energy, it was fun. Upon graduation, I got a role as a sustainability specialist (operational role)....I was bored and caught myself sleeping. I knew this wasn't for me. So I went to my Creator and prayed. I asked the Holyspirit what career was for me and kept asking. One day, I was scrolling through the internet and saw a Project Management course. I heard the Holyspirit tell me to buy it. I was like, what? With my savings...no way. But I eventually yielded and paid for the course. I listened to it and learned about Project Management. I also used the knowledge gained to identify my existing project management experience. At this point, I didn't realize that the career for me was project management. One day, I decided to go back to Nigeria to do the NYSC (1 year youth service) as a way to feel like "I'm doing something with my life" and not get pressured into doing a PhD 🤣😅😂 When I got to Nigeria, a friend of mine was working on an Energy Electrification project and shared my resume with the project director/CEO. I was invited for a discussion! Very excited. I went there thinking I was going to position myself for a technical solar energy specialist role because of my background. At the end of the discussion, the CEO mentioned that they were actually looking for someone who would be a Project Coordinator or Project manager. At that point, I felt the Holyspirit say "I told you project management". Immediately, I started positioning as a Project Coordinator using the knowledge from the course and experience identified. 👇 by @ogagajohnson

A win for me last week into this week was restarting my PMP Exam Prep Training Program! 💃🏾🥳 www.verisult.com/pmp I had paused the program for almost two years, so it feels really good to be back! And teaching the PMP exam preparation course again reminded me of why I fell in love with teaching project management in the first place. It's the joy of seeing professionals gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to grow their project management careers. There's something so fulfilling about being part of that journey. So excited to be doing this again! What's your win this week? #OgagaJohnson #ProjectManagement #PMP #Educator #CareerGrowth by @ogagajohnson

I get a lot of people coming to me for career guidance. But sometimes, when we dig deeper into the kind of jobs they should be applying for, I realize there is another layer to the conversation. For some people, it is not just about getting a job. It is about getting the right kind of work experience that supports their pathway to Permanent Residency in Canada. And that is where I stop, because immigration is not my area of expertise. But thankfully, my best girl is an immigration expert. 😊 So for this week’s Career Talk with Ogaga Johnson, I have invited Joy Osazuwa, popularly known as Mrs. O, to help us unpack this important topic: Building Canadian Work Experience That Counts Toward PR This session is especially for you if: * You recently graduated and you are trying to figure out what kind of job to pursue * You are currently on a work permit and thinking about your pathway to PR * You are wondering whether your current work experience actually counts * You want to make more informed career decisions while also considering your immigration goals Joy will help us understand what to pay attention to when choosing roles and building Canadian work experience, so that your career decisions are aligned with your longer-term immigration plans. If staying in Canada and becoming a Permanent Resident is part of your goal, you do not want to miss this conversation. Come with your questions.
