🗣️ BBMAK APPRECIATION POST!

BBMAK’s sound is unmatched for me. Their songs were right in my vocal range’s sweet spot, and I’ve spent countless hours over the past 25 years singing with the boys — mostly in my car. I was in high school when I first heard them, and their music gave me my own personal outlet to express myself; and though I hadn’t met them, it felt like I was singing right beside them. “Still On Your Side” resonated with me the most, and it truly seemed like they were singing it just for me at a time I felt lonely.

I was supposed to see BBMAK open for NSYNC back in 2000, but traffic to the venue made me miss out; and they broke up not long after. I was devastated — I’d missed my shot for what I thought was forever. So when they announced a concert in LA in 2018, there was no way I was going to miss it. The chance to sing along with the boys LIVE?! I did the VIP thing to soak in an acoustic set and fetch a quick moment with the band. I loved to see that regardless of age or gender, they interacted with every fan the same — with genuine kindness and appreciation, signing everything with “love.” I did it again a year later at their next LA concert, bringing along a lyric sheet I’d bought for “Still On Your Side” that I’d neurotically annotated so that Ste could add a couple corrections — which he graciously accommodated in stride.

Last week, I got to experience BBMAK live for a third incredible time with friends — fifteen feet from center stage, singing every note back at them during every song. It’s been six years since the last time, and it all brought me back (here) to why I love them so much. For as long as they continue to bring their show back to LA, I’ll be there. And maybe next time, I’ll have to spring for one of @dayonesvip in-person serenade sessions so I really can sing right along with them. Until then, my own little BBMAK collection will suffice — in addition to plenty more car karaoke, of course.

All of my thanks and love to Christian, Ste, and Mark for making me feel like one of the boys for the past 25 years. Cheers to 25 more! -x by @ogquispy

So proud to have been a cog ⚙️ in the marketing machine that helped #TheWildRobotMovie soar. One of my absolute favorite film campaigns — had to get my hands on this Deluxe Special Edition Art Book to remember it by.

If you’ve ever felt like an Other, have children in your life, or just appreciate a beautiful, heartwarming story with breathtaking visuals and a score you can feel in your chest — this movie is for you. Go see it!!! 🤖 🩵 by @ogquispy

Ever since I was a kid, all I’ve ever wanted was to belong. That’s probably a big reason #PowerRangers always spoke to me — the idea of coming together despite differences in pursuit of something greater.

So to have a chance every two years to return to the fandom’s flagship event I helped launch 17 years ago and see what it’s become for the community — a place to belong — gives me pride beyond words.

To the friends that have become family and the new faces that became friends, thank you for another chapter of pure #PowerMorphicon joy. Whether I took a photo with you, had a conversation, said a quick hi as we crossed paths, or even just exchanged a knowing look across the chaos — you all once again made me feel like I belonged, and it meant the world. My heart is full. ⚡️ ❤️ @officialpowermorphicon @powerrangers by @ogquispy

“You have a good life. Make yourself happy.” Those were the words my Grandma closed with every time we spoke over the past decade; just in case.

After 91 long years and a farewell tour that would’ve put Cher and Elton to shame, Grandma passed away peacefully earlier this week — which she both welcomed and was ready for.

Grandma was always the matriarch. All family holidays and events revolved around her. Grandma’s House was our second home. My grandparents divorced before I was born, so I only knew my Grandma as a strong, independent woman; and in retrospect, I think she showed me that as long as I had family in my life, I’d never be alone. Family was everything to her, and she LOVED being a grandma.

So many traditions and core memories involved her. Taking us to the park near her house. The trains in her basement of buried treasures. Guessing which color the next car to drive down the street would be. Listening to her crazy stories. Reading through her gossip magazines. Sleepovers watching Unsolved Mysteries. Even toy hunting for Power Rangers back in 1993. Her love language was food — and she spoke it fluently.

Most importantly, she never wavered in her love and support. I was worried about how she’d react to finding out I was gay; but she didn’t even blink. That’s just the way I was born, she said; and that was that. She’d even ask if I was seeing anyone. “Make yourself happy.”

Though we didn’t share the same relationship with religion, I was always impressed at how her faith was at once both firm and fluid; evolving with the way of the world as the lessons of the Bible were meant to. I wish a lot of the people who call themselves Christians were more like her.

I last saw her was a month ago today. Grandma didn’t have much to say — she was just beaming to see her oldest daughter, the grandkids she spent so much time with, and the great grandkids. I knew it would be the last time I saw her; she wished us well, and I got to say goodbye to my last living grandparent.

To Grandma — thanks for a lifetime of memories and family. I’m glad you’ve finally found the peace you deserve. We’ll miss you, but you(r food) will always be with us. ❤️ by @ogquispy

My Monday was pretty morphinominal. Such a fun photo op and pleasure to run into these lovely folks again! Not every day you get to morph with the Rangers. ⚡️ 💖

Spent an afternoon with this super small crew shooting a project with Aaron in 2014. He couldn’t have been more kind — his first priority was to introduce himself to everyone and immediately learn our names. He was a pleasure to work with — he was sweet, gracious, and engaging throughout the day, up for anything that could yield some cool art, and was excited to share some new music with us he was working on. At the end of the day, he made sure to take a selfie with all of us, and exchanged numbers with everyone to keep in touch. Wish I had.

Gone far too young. Rest easy, Aaron. 🖤 taken in North Hollywood, California by @ogquispy
