Most people run this backwards. They pick a strategy first, then figure out the rest while losing money.

The book says run it in order:

Learn the instrument before choosing a strategy. Learn the costs before calculating a return. Learn what can go wrong before sending an order. Practice before funding an account.

Instrument → costs → risks → practice → money. Skip a step and the market collects tuition.

Myth: it's all gambling anyway.

Nah. From the book: "Investing, trading, speculation, and gambling. These words get used like they all mean the same thing. They do not."

Gambling is betting against fixed odds you can't change. Investing is owning a piece of something real. Trading is playing short-term price movement with rules. Different games — and the rules are the whole difference.

Chapter 1 draws the lines clean. Because if you don't know which game you're playing, you've already lost.

Read that again. Nobody's selling you safety here — anyone who promises that is lying. What the book does is show you where the risk actually lives: in the order type, in the costs, in the exit you didn't plan.

You can't dodge what you can't see. So first, you learn to see it.

Let me ask you something. Who taught you how money works?

Not motivational quotes about money. The actual mechanics — what a market is, what happens when you place an order, where your money goes, what can go wrong between the click and the cash.
