I love you more.

It was our thing. It started out as a fun, playful competition, but “I love you more” turned into so much more than that. It was a reminder that we loved each other more every day, minute, second. More than the highs of life, more than any low, and of course all the in between. He was there for all of it. He had a way to him that made every moment feel like a moment worth remembering. An average, ordinary day with him felt like the best you’ve ever had. I always left refreshed and was reminded I was loved and that life is supposed to be fun and it’s okay to laugh at yourself.

Everyone feels like he is their best friend and I’ve pondered on how he did that? How did he make every single person in his path feel so valued, loved, and cared for? That they were somebody- that they truly mattered?

I’m still not exactly sure, but what I do know is that my Papaw is the most present, invested, intentional, curious, and humble man I’ve ever met. A true one of a kind. Someone that everyone wants to be like, who I want to be like. He tackled every situation with grace and laughter and truly cared about every detail of your life. He was always trying to know more about God, people, and the world around him.

It will be hard to navigate this earthly world without him, but I have hope in Christ that one day we will be able to rejoice together again as citizens of Heaven (Philippians 3:20-21).

Every visit, phone call, and Sunday lunch was a little slice of heaven that I’ll always be grateful for. Although there will be things I’ll wish I could tell you in the future, I’m grateful for all the things said between us. That I don’t have anything left in my brain or heart that you didn’t know.
