If freedom is right behind you, why do you stay?
I guess because being stuck together can sometimes feel safer than being free alone.
Sometimes when people are going through a difficult situation together, there is a strange comfort in knowing “I’m not going through this alone.” Even when the situation itself is painful, the presence of another person can make it feel bearable.
“It feels comfortable even though you are in bondage.”
What keeps us comfortable with being stuck ? Is it fear? Love? Habit or circumstance?
Are they actually comforting each other, or have they become comfortable with being stuck?
The two figures are tied together, but they sit calmly within their restraint. Behind them is an exit,a possibility of freedom, another life, a way out. Yet they remain where they are. They are becoming free, yet they are still unsure of what to do with that freedom.
Even bondage can begin to feel familiar, even stagnancy can begin to feel safe.
Sometimes, we become so accustomed to what confines us that we stop recognizing it as something we can leave.
I guess the most difficult kind of bondage is the one that feels like home. by @ohhyin
