It’s #WorldMisophoniaAwarenessDay! There’s a few things I want to talk about: Misophonia is a neurological disorder in which SOUND triggers your fight or flight response, and causes intense pain & reactions. I am often vocal about this, but realized I haven’t made an official post. This is the day to do it. Navigating this condition has been a very long, stressful journey. It’s especially hard when my home isn’t even a safe place against noise. As a teenager, I would harm myself as a way to cope, which is unfortunately a common response. With that being said, I have made significant progress since then and I am so proud of myself. I have learned better coping mechanisms, and now only use sound protection as needed, rather than 24/7. Thank you to @soquietorg , @dukecenterformisophonia , @misophoniafund , and @misophonia_therapywithsandra for all of the advocacy and assistance you offer. You all provide fantastic resources and I am forever grateful. :) Having a support system is also crucial to navigating through misophonia, so I also want to thank my amazing family, boyfriend, and friends for always supporting me no matter what. Obviously not every single person could be in this post, but whether you’ve helped me through a major trigger, or even just acknowledged my misophonia, you mean more to me than you know. :) #misophonia #misophoniaawareness by @ohlevity
