What’s your favourite song from AURA? 👇

It’s been a month since Amelie Lens dropped her debut album, ten years after her first track “Exhale” in 2016. 11 tracks, all on her own EXHALE label, with her own vocals on top of the usual peak-time kicks.

She called it “the most honest version of myself I’ve ever shared,” covering the rise from tiny local clubs to festival main stages, becoming a mother and building EXHALE.

Tracks like “our frequency,” “4am at RSO,” “falling into acid dreams” and “the energy is us” show a more melodic, personal side, and she’s taken the AURA live show to Sónar, Paléo and Tomorrowland this summer.

Which era of raving was safer, the 90s or today? 👀

The 90s scene had almost no safety infrastructure. No on-site medical teams, no harm reduction booths, no real awareness of the physical risks of dancing for hours in a packed room. What it did have was smaller, more contained parties and a tighter community that genuinely looked out for each other. The risks were real but the scale was smaller and people broadly knew what they were walking into.

Today events are bigger, hotter and more anonymous. But the safety infrastructure has caught up in ways the 90s never had. Organisations like DanceSafe and The Loop now operate at major events across Europe and the US, offering real-time alerts when something dangerous is detected in circulation. Ireland’s Safer Nightlife Programme flagged a serious risk at two major festivals in 2025 before anyone got seriously hurt. That kind of rapid response simply didn’t exist thirty years ago.

The tools to have a safer night out in 2026 exist. The question is whether events are doing enough to make them visible and accessible to everyone walking through the door.

Is schranz going commercial, or is it just finally getting the audience it always deserved? 🔥

The term was coined by Frankfurt DJ Chris Liebing in 1994 to describe a specific strain of hard, distorted percussion-driven techno. For years it stayed buried in German clubs and underground raves, built on drum loops, factory noise and relentless four-on-the-floor kicks pushing past 150 BPM. There was no crossover ambition, no festival play, no social media strategy. It was made for rooms that didn’t care about any of that.

That has changed. SoundCloud uploads tagged schranz jumped over 80% in 2025. Artists like Nikolina have built their entire identity around the sound, fusing it with Eurodance nostalgia and playing it to packed rooms from London to Kuala Lumpur. Labels like Teletech, Definition of Hard Techno and Kube are releasing it at volume. The dancefloor at a schranz night in 2026 looks nothing like it did in 2004.

The question is whether that growth changes what the music actually is. Schranz built its reputation on being uncompromising, music that filtered out people who weren’t serious about it. Now it’s everywhere. Is that the sound winning, or the sound softening?

Would you have gone ? 👇🍌

Last year bramsfruit x ADE transformed their Staalstraat boutique in Amsterdam into an in-store rave with live DJs, packed rooms, and free bananas for the crowd.

Experiential sets don’t get much more unique than this.

Would it be as big today ? 👇

1989, West Berlin. A DJ called Dr. Motte registered a political demonstration for peace, joy and pancakes. 150 people showed up and danced down the Ku’damm. That was the first Love Parade.

Ten years later it drew 1.5 million people to Straße des 17. Juni, the biggest gathering electronic music has ever seen. For a generation it was the holiday of the whole techno movement, part rave, part peace march, all of it built on the same idea: music as a way to bring people together.

It ended in tragedy. The 2010 disaster in Duisburg, where 21 people lost their lives in a crowd crush, closed the chapter for good. Out of respect for the victims, the organisers said it would never return.

But the spirit didn’t die. In 2022 Dr. Motte brought it back to Berlin as Rave the Planet, same values, new name. This August the parade rolled through the city again under the motto “Imagine Love.”

Which is your favourite techno couple? 👇

Hard techno has given us more than just heavy kicks and distorted basslines, it’s given us some genuine love stories built entirely on shared lineups and late night sets.

Jazzy and Jowi are one of the scene’s favorite pairings, constantly linking up for B2B sets that feel less like a booking and more like two people who just get each other, on and off the decks.

Then there’s Novah and Nico Moreno, arguably the most talked about couple in the genre right now. From Tomorrowland to Hive Festival, they’ve turned shared stages into something the whole scene follows, releasing tracks together and building a following that treats their relationship as much a part of the culture as the music itself. The French pair (Novah is Elodie Sarrailh) even pulled a five-hour B2B at Rave Rebels in Brussels.

And then Nikolina and Hades, two names from the darker, harder end of the spectrum. Nikolina came up through Berlin’s underground, modelling for techno label NAKT before stepping behind the decks and making her name in Schranz.

Who would you like to see together ?

Would you go to one of his events? 👇

Padre Guilherme is a Catholic priest from northern Portugal. He’s also a techno DJ with 3.4 million followers.

Ordained in 1999, he started spinning during lockdown to raise money for church repairs. Then it took off. He played to 1.5 million pilgrims before Pope Francis’ closing Mass at World Youth Day in Lisbon, has had his headphones blessed by the Pope, and performed under Christ the Redeemer in Rio.

Earlier this year he turned Buenos Aires’ Plaza de Mayo into an open-air rave honouring Pope Francis a year after his death, two hours of techno and religious melodies, with giant screens projecting the late Pope over a packed square of Catholics and non-believers alike.

His sets run techno remixes of sacred music - the Gregorian-chant classic « Ameno, » papal speeches cut into the mix - alongside the odd curveball, like a Super Mario Bros. edit at Medusa Festival on a bill with Carl Craig and Armin van Buuren.

Faith and techno under one roof.

Which side are you on, old raves or new raves ?

Back in the day, finding a rave meant knowing someone who knew someone. Flyers, record shops, phone lines, word of mouth. You didn’t even know where you were going until the night started, half the thrill was the mystery. Now everything’s announced six months out with a full lineup poster and a Google Maps pin, way easier to actually plan your night around.

The crowd was different too. No phones out, nobody filming for content, just people locked into the music and the room. Now half the floor has a phone up at some point, but that same footage is also how a lot of us found this scene in the first place.

Rave culture used to be underground by default, DIY, community run, small enough that everyone kind of knew each other. Now it’s LED walls, festival sponsorships, celebrity DJs, a full blown industry. Bigger crowds, bigger stages, way more people getting into the music than ever could back then. The energy’s just different, not necessarily worse.

Does everything in 2026 need a star rating? 📱👇

Underground music platform Seen Live has triggered a debate after launching an app that allows ravers to log gigs and score DJ sets out of 5 stars.

The response from artists was immediate and sharp. Speaking to Resident Advisor, Sunil Sharpe called the concept a “devaluation of the craft,” comparing star ratings to scoring “the local Domino’s.” Elisa Bee added: “What bothers me is the idea that art somehow needs to be measured and evaluated.”

Meanwhile, DJ Marcelle dismissed the whole idea of hunting for public validation, warning that artists who play for approval lose their edge: “DJs who let themselves be influenced by what other people think are not to be taken that seriously as creative artists... You can’t download creativity and authenticity.”

While some view archiving sets as a harmless memory tool, critics argue that constant scoring risks turning art into data, pressuring DJs to play safe “crowd-pleasers” instead of taking risks.

If every set gets rated, reviewed, and algorithmically processed, do we lose the unrepeatable, off-the-grid magic of nightlife?

Does scoring DJ sets ruin the artistic integrity of the dancefloor, or is it just modern archiving?

Drop your take below. 💬

Three iconic pictures that defined techno 👇

1. Berlin’s Love Parade turned techno into something the whole world could see. Streets packed with ravers, sound systems rolling through the city, the Tiergarten basically became one giant dancefloor. It captured the exact moment techno stopped being an underground secret and became a full blown movement, tied to a city rebuilding its identity after the wall came down.

2. Detroit is where it all actually started. Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, known as the Belleville Three, built the entire sound from nothing. No blueprint, no scene to follow, just a group of friends experimenting with machines and drum patterns in a city going through hard times, creating something that would eventually reshape music everywhere.

3. Tresor club took a literal bank vault and turned it into one of the most important clubs in electronic music history. They kept the bars, kept the rawness, kept the concrete instead of polishing it into something generic. It became proof that techno was never about looking pretty, it was about the feeling in the room, and Tresor captured that better than almost anywhere else.

Do you think Berghain is overrated ? 👀

For over two decades, the industrial power plant on the border of Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain has stood as the undisputed holy grail of global club culture. But the landscape is shifting.

In the latest rankings, Berghain has taken a noticeable tumble down the charts, marking a rare and dramatic slide for the temple of techno.

As commercialisation, massive festival expansions, and new nightlife hubs capture the scene’s focus, the untouchable status of Berlin’s most famous door policy is being put to the test.

Swipe left to see the trajectory over the years. 📈

Has Berghain lost its edge, or does the ranking even matter to real techno culture? Drop your thoughts below 👇

Two of the genre’s biggest headliners. Two of the most influential labels in the game. One relationship that quietly shaped the sound of modern techno.

No drama. No statements. Just the end of a partnership that defined a scene.
