oh, imani… i don’t have the words, but i’m trying. best, you were my safe place in a world that often felt too heavy. from 8th grade through college till even now, you were the one soul who saw all of me and never turned away. my confidant. my sister. you never judged me. you just loved me, exactly as i was.

you were special. i knew from the first time we met you’d be my person. and you were exactly that. truly divine in spirit. there was something so pure, so gentle, so sacred about you that the world didn’t deserve to take so harshly. your light was rare. your soul was rare. and the way you were taken will never make sense to me. we called each other ‘best’ because bestfriend didn’t work for us. the best each other could have. my sister.

you were there for every first i’ve ever had in life — every fear, every milestone, every version of me. you held my heart with so much care, and because of you, i learned what unconditional love feels like. your laughs, us dancing and cooking, listening to R&B memories that will never be enough for me. no matter how much time away from each other, our sisterhood never died.

life without you feels unimaginable. some days i still wait to hear your voice, still reach for my phone, still expect you to be there. i don’t know how to do this world without you, but i trust that your spirit walks with me now, protecting me and being there for me the way you always did.

i promise i will watch over bubba like you would want & make sure he remembers how much of an amazing mom you were; mom is never alone. i will carry your love, your and your light forward for you. this isn’t goodbye, it’s see you in another lifetime.

this does not define you or your legacy. this was only a small part of your life of who imani dia smith was and IS. you will be remembered for being angel on earth and a peaceful soul all whoever encountered you!
