⁠@oho_interiors makes 1,500 square feet feel like a grand gesture in this Colorado carriage house. Relocating from Minnesota gave Melissa Oholendt the chance to turn this temporary home into the coziest kind of personal project for her family—one that proves small-space living can still pack major personality.⁠

A day in the life of a designer, NYC edition 🗽

A little bit of sourcing, a lot of running around the city, approximately 400 things photographed for future reference, and plenty of “wait, did you see that??.”

There’s nothing quite like getting out of the studio and seeing things in person, especially with the Oho Team in tow. Fabrics, furniture, antiques, showrooms, good food, sore feet and lots of inspired ideas coming home with us.

Basically: work, but make it New York.

Now presenting: the #OhoTraditionallyCozy kitchenette. When we started imagining what this 1,300-square-foot blank canvas basement could look like, we always knew there would be a kitchen area. Our clients wanted this floor to be place where their three kids could play and hangout with friends… but where they could host adults as well. The result was thoughtful millwork, durable finishes and (of course) a full refrigerator for drinks.

Your first look at #OhoTraditionallyCozy! We designed this floor as a place for the family to really hangout and host. It’s cohesive with the home’s traditional design, while also being a bit more playful. We recently received feedback from our clients…Their kids have not left the basement—it’s officially their favorite place to hang and play. Music to our ears! by @oho_interiors

What do you cut when the budget needs to come down by $500,000?

For Melissa Oholendt from @oho_interiors and Mark, the chopping block for @MysaHus included the pool, the wellness studio, and luxury plumbing fixtures.

But the biggest lesson had nothing to do with the cuts. It was about how hard it is to make decisions on a home you’ve spent two years bringing to life.

In Episode 183, Melissa and Mark talk through the changes, the lessons, and why finishing Mysa Hus felt a lot like raising a very expensive fourth child.
