Seattle’s Chinatown-International District, Nicho’s Matcha, Panama Hotel Tea and Coffee, and the garage window of Uwajimaya.

Seattle’s Japantown is full of history, as is with all of Chinatown-International District. I used to work at the Panama Hotel Tea and Coffee Shop in high school as a barista—slinging paninis and making coffee. Spoiler alert: I wasn’t the best barista but my coworkers were so kind and patient! Also, I was always scared of getting stuck in the fridge (lol). Much of the CID’s history is literally and figuratively underground. In fact, you can take a tour of the bathhouse that used to operate many decades ago at the Panama Hotel Tea and Coffee House. The buildings around the entire neighborhood and their walls are steeped in history, and they deserve to be remembered!

Seattle foods you should try: Earl Grey Tiramisu from San Fermo and mantı from Cafe Turko. Side quest: photos of the cats at Twice Sold Tales. I’m really a sucker for anything earl grey if I’m being completely honest BUT even their regular tiramisu is fantastic and this was just over the top delicious. In fact, please give me an entire sheet of this. Italian food, Turkish food, cats, animal balloons, photo booths, and MAUM market. A very Hoi carousel 😌💅🏻 Tell your tiramisu-loving friends about this one—it’s worth it!!

The Josefine — Vienna boutique hotel experience
Hands down the BEST hotel experience I’ve ever had was at The Josefine in Vienna. I LOVED the staff. They were all so kind and sweet 🥹 Every element of the room had a storytelling element that intertwined from the moment you book to the moment you check out. The notebook, little notes, the vintage details of the lighting fixtures, the bedside radio. I cannot express my adoration for this place enough.

Kyoto Arts and Antiques in Georgetown, Seattle.
They had ornate textiles and antiques to endlessly browse. Vintage kimonos and fabrics, ceramics, and home decor. Plus, mom and my favorite meal to have together 🙂

Moments back home in Seattle. Remembering food I had in Vienna that I managed to capture. I did wish I had a bigger appetite or someone to share food with! The coffee shop next to my hotel served up mean bagel sandwiches and spectacular coffee. A few blocks away was a vegan Vietnamese restaurant that was delicious! I miss Vienna and Amsterdam so much. I wish I didn’t have to leave so soon.

Come with me to the National Nordic Museum to check out the Moomin exhibit, which is only here until September 2026. I remember going to a Moomin museum+shop in London, so my curiosity led me to check this out. I also had friends who grew up watching Moomin. It was interesting to read the background and lore on the author—Tove Jansson (1914-2001)—and how her seaside upbringing in Finland inspired much of the adventures in the series! Very cool. It’s a small exhibit so you likely won’t spend much time there, but they do have a permanent exhibit on the Nordic immigrants of Seattle!

Architecture of Austria on the Fujifilm X100VI —
Most of these are in Vienna, a couple are in various other cities like Krems and Melk.

This camera has been the best investment into my creativity so far. It forces me to slow down, absorb the environment, and also be mindful of those around me. I do my best to not be in people’s way by looking around before taking a photo. I’ve also decided not to edit my photos anymore and allow the camera to do the work. Even if the composition is skewed and asymmetrical or overexposed, I allow it to be now!
