Scotty knows his way around a kitchen, and at the Garden Cafe in Duncan, he gets to show it every day☀️

The Garden Cafe is part of Think Ability, a Duncan nonprofit that builds job skills and creates work for Oklahomans with developmental disabilities. Their community garden grows fresh food for the cafe, and the Garden Hub brings that work to the community. Every part of the operation gives people a place to learn, grow and do work they care about.

This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we are celebrating Scotty and every Oklahoman who brings their talent to work.

The hardest part of school for Alyssa was not the coursework. It was the hours away from her kids.

She did it anyway, for a year, while still working in childcare at Lil Buckaroos in Bartlesville.

"It was all worth it because I knew I was working toward a better future and the opportunity to provide more for my children."

Alyssa finished the Accounting program at Tri County Tech with her tuition covered by SNAP Works. She is now starting a new career in accounting at Gorman Management.

That is what more than a job looks like. Not just a paycheck, but training, support, and a career worth the year it took to get there.

Important update for families using Child Care Subsidy:

📅The State Median Income (SMI) eligibility realignment for Child Care Subsidy previously scheduled for October 1, 2026, will now take effect February 1, 2027.

This gives families, providers and our system administrators more time to prepare.
If your family currently receives Child Care Subsidy, you do not need to do anything right now.
Your current eligibility and copayment will stay the same through your next renewal, as long as your household continues to meet program guidelines.

We know how important dependable child care is to your family. We are committed to keeping the Child Care Subsidy program stable and predictable and making sure families have clear information and time to prepare.

We’ll continue sharing updates before February 1.

A new state. A tornado. Surgery. A family to care for. Any one of those is a reason to put school off another year. Morgan started anyway.

September is Workforce Development Month, and we are sharing the stories of people who built careers through SNAP Works. This week, Morgan.

She enrolled in cosmetology school at Tri Country Tech in Bartlesville not long after arriving in Oklahoma, with training costs covered through SNAP Works. "School had its challenges but the support from the staff and my peers pushed me to keep going even when I felt like giving up. I would not be where I am in my career without tech and the SNAP E&T program!"

That is what more than a job looks like. Not just a paycheck, but training, support, and a reason to keep going on the days it would be easier to stop.

September is Direct Support Professionals Month and a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions and impact DSPs, also known as Habilitation Training Specialist (HTS), make in providing essential support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as other support needs.

DSPs provide needed caregiving, but also serve an integral role in helping individuals reach their goals, teaching daily living skills and training for increased independence.

See the impact one amazing DSP, Lynn, has made in Jackson’s journey on our YouTube.
