The African art ecosystem is at a defining moment.

Our continent overflows with talent, creativity, and cultural depth, yet without the right digital infrastructure, too much of our heritage risks being under-documented, under-archived, and under-represented globally.

Last week, we hosted The African Art & Tech Dialogue webinar in partnership with @vascan.io and @artreport.africa The discussion revealed how technology can transform how African art is preserved, accessed, and amplified.

Two words come to mind when art meets technology: access and urgency. Data and technology are not just tools; they are gateways to preserving heritage, shaping our narratives, and creating visibility for artists, with real economic impact. But the challenge remains: bridging the gap between creativity and scalable infrastructure. Her vision: a decentralized platform where Africa’s data and stories live on our terms.

Africa is still under-documented and under-archived. Too often, fear shapes how we engage with technology. Instead, he urged us to approach it with curiosity. From AI to platforms like ChatGPT, technology can help us collect data, tell stories, and create experiences. His message: don’t fear tech, engage with it.

For Roli, art and technology are about possibility and progress. If tech has transformed other industries, art should be no different. Yes, AI must be fact-checked, but archiving, documentation, and preservation demand it. Beyond that, tech decentralizes power and expands representation.

We’ve been building something at @vascan.io

It started with Vascan for Business — helping galleries and art businesses digitise their operations, collections and exhibitions.

Then we built Vascan for Creatives — a professional digital home helping creatives build their identity, showcase their work and discover opportunities. (The LinkedIn for the creative industry)

Today, 800+ creatives are already using it.

But along the way, we started asking a different question:

What if you didn't have to be an artist to participate in the art industry?

That question led to what we've been quietly building next:

Vascan Art Dealers.

A new way for people to participate in the art economy, without being an artist, owning a gallery, or already owning an artwork.

We're building a network where people can discover selected artworks from verified galleries, introduce them to potential buyers through their networks, and earn when those artworks sell.

The artist creates.
The gallery provides the art.
The dealer creates the connection.

And everyone gets to participate in the value chain.

This is more than another Vascan product.

It's our attempt to open another door into Africa's growing art economy.

And we're just getting started.

An Open Letter to Every Creative on Vascan.

Dear Creative,

If you're receiving this letter, it's because you've chosen to build your creative presence on Vascan for Creatives. Before anything else, I simply want to say thank you.

Thank you for trusting us with your journey. Thank you for allowing us to play a small part in documenting your story and helping you put your best foot forward.

This isn't just another email from a founder, it's a letter from one creative to another.

I'm an artist too. I studied Fine Art Education, majoring in Painting, at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Like many of you, I've experienced the long days and even longer nights in the studio, searching for the next idea, refining every detail, questioning whether the work is good enough, and hoping that one day someone will truly see it.

I know what it feels like to pour your heart into creating something meaningful, only to wonder if the world will ever notice.

I see you!

I understand the courage it takes to choose a creative life. It isn't always the easiest path, but it is one of the most meaningful.

Creatives shape how we understand ourselves and the world around us. Through your work, you preserve our history, challenge our thinking, celebrate our cultures, inspire new ideas, and imagine futures that don't yet exist. Every painting, photograph, sculpture, film, design, poem, illustration, and creative expression becomes part of humanity's story.

Without creatives, there is no culture.
Without culture, there is no identity.
Without identity, we lose the stories that connect us.

Your work matters.
