👋🏾 it’s been a while. Some of y’all will remember me as @ abolajiooo which I was known as for nearly 8 years. So why now the name change to Olanre Studio? Olanre is a play on my middle name which in the Yoruba language gives the idea of “wealth moving forward” (funny tidbit: my first name actually means “the one who woke up with wealth” or “the one surprised by wealth” 🤭).

But really, I want my presence in this space to be less about applause for what I make and more about “the wealth” I offer you who choose to vibe with me, so that you too can make incredible things that you love. So cheers to this next chapter 🥂

Top: self-drafted denim polo
Pants: self-drafted denim barrel leg jeans
Fabric: @nickoftimefabric

Pattern Release: Dahana Sweater Vest

I’m so stoked to share that the Dahana Sweater Vest pattern is now available!

The Dahana Sweater Vest is inspired by its namesake @dahanadcr, who is known for her chic style, bold color-blocking, and clever layering. The vest is worked flat from the bottom up with an oversized fit to wear as a layering piece for colder days.

The tabard-style vest features a ribbed hem with a high-low design between the front and back, crewneck-style folded collar with modified double knit collar (inspired by @sofiaknitsthings ) worked in the round, textured side trim, and side straps with a slide buckle.

Techniques
Knitting flat, knitting in the round, *Italian Tubular Cast-On, increasing, decreasing, *German Short Rows, *3-Needle Bind-Off, *stretchy folded collar bind-off, repeats, holding stitches, picking up stitches, wet blocking, steam blocking, sewing straps to garment. (* video tutorials available)

Designed for Sizes 1—9 (bust/chest sizes 30—64 in [75—160 cm]). Shown here in Size 2 (Model bust size 36 in/90 cm). The pattern is available in English on Ravelry. Link in bio!

To preface this video, I’m sure some has talked/is talking about this. @kolinamakes recent post reminded me that I’m not alone in this. Because honestly what do you do when you’re burnt out from making things, especially clothes. by @olanre.studio

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t always spend a lot of money on yarn, but I almost always love to be a little cheeky 😘 by @olanre.studio

I don’t know exactly where I’d be without knitting. I do know that I’d have A LOT more money in my bank account but probably more time in therapy 😂 by @olanre.studio

Paying homage to the dresses (Bubu) I saw my mom wear growing up. I’m obsessed with this Àdìrẹ (Yoruba for soak & tie) fabric!

Main piece: self-drafted as one-piece of Adire fabric, attaching only at the sides.
Placket and collar: blue linen from my stash. by @olanre.studio

Anyone in Oak Cliff or near Oak Cliff want to join a knitting/yarn craft group? Because making is more fun with others around!

Also, I’m impartial: crochet, embroidery, needlework etc would also be welcome! by @olanre.studio

This is Àdìrẹ. One of the pieces of fabric my mom brought back from her recent trip to Nigeria. Àdìrẹ is a cloth traditionally dyed by Yoruba women from my family’s place of origin: Abeokuta, Nigeria among the Egba people group. It comes from Yoruba words meaning to tie and to soak.

Thinking about it, It’s so cool to have a piece of fabric from the direct place my family is from.

To pay homage to dresses I saw my mom and other Nigerian women wear, this dress self-drafted and one-piece. It attaches only at the sides. I added a placket and plan to add a collar. I have some further ideas for this dress, but the rest I’m doing on the fly. by @olanre.studio
