Old Hall entered this year’s art themed pram race as a fast moving Jackson Pollock painting. They came in at an astounding SECOND PLACE!!! Lots of brilliant entries, as well as impressive running given the heatwave. Now the Old Hall team has done so well, their training starts tomorrow for next year’s attempt at first place 😂

It is the season of Stag Beetles. Our Stumpery was made this year to encourage a habitat for these magnificent little creatures in the coming years. Here are a few of the stag beetles we have seen. The males have large mandibles but despite the females smaller mandibles, they have a much stringer bite. About 90 per cent of their life is lived underground. Often, they are attracted to warm tarmac, so keep an eye out for them at this time of year.

Old Hall will be hosting a celebration of Hildegard of Bingen on Saturday 21st September from 10am - 5am. Hildegard of Bingen was a Benedictine abbess, poet, writer and artist. She is known for her remarkable contributions to scientific natural history through her understanding of botany, and to music with her numerous compositions.

This one day event has been inspired by the stained glass window in Old Hall’s chapel depicting Hildegard of Bingen - a polymath and mystic visionary. There will be talks, a workshop, stalls, music, and Hildegard-inspired food!
