Announcing our 2026 Experimental Bikepacking Team!We started our Experimental Bikepacking Team in 2025 with a wild idea: Could we build a team for a sport comprised of races based on individual effort? What would it consist of? How would it work?It worked better than we'd dreamed! We discovered that shared knowledge, preparation, and encouragement made everyone more successful. The team was so rewarding that we expanded it for 2026!We received so many amazing applicants, and we want to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone that applied! It was incredibly tough to narrow down to the following fifteen. Here is yet another Oregon Timber Trail Race post. I wanted to post my own pictures along with the rest, plus a few others that @oldmanmountainracks took. So here ya go. And here’s my words: Riding and racing across an entire state on a singletrack-focused route is one of the greatest experiences in bikepacking. Some even call these journeys life-changing. There is a draw to these routes that brings us together to do hard things. The Oregon Timber Trail is one of those events that will change you. The OTTR is rugged, relentless, and untouched in many parts. Several sections of the trail have debris scattered all over, including downed trees, sticks, burned soil, and re-vegetation overgrowth. Many parts of the trail are incredible singletrack, from technical rock riding to flowy moist soil. The good parts seem to make up for the bad ones. I really hope this trail is completely rebuilt in parts for future use.The race starts off hard, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It is 200 brutal miles to the first resupply in Chemult. This is Oregon backcountry; I saw not a single soul the first 200 miles! You get some incredible descents and lots of HAB. Everything about the first 200 is the definition of hard; embrace that feeling. The resupply points get a little closer together after Chemult and are way more attainable. Get through that first 200, and you will be rewarded. Keep your head high in the bad parts and always look forward to the fun parts; you will eventually get there.Despite the mechanical issues and debris on the trail, I will be back. This is an amazing trail, and it needs more attention than it currently has. This could be a triple crown-level event. Six days. Twelve hours. Forty-four minutes.Congratulations to Alex Schultz (@schultzy954), the first rider to finish the 2026 Oregon Timber Trail Race.Alex crossed 670 miles of rugged Oregon backcountry, including the relentless opening stretch through the Fremont Tier, while overcoming a rear shock failure that affected more than 300 miles of his ride.His reflection captures both sides of the Oregon Timber Trail: incredible singletrack and wild, life-changing experiences, along with the downed trees, overgrowth, fire damage, and neglected sections that make this route so demanding.Yep ... it is also a reminder of why stewardship matters on the OTT.Congratulations, Alex, and thank you to @bikepackingcom for sharing his story (link in bio).📸 @oldmanmountainracks#oregontimbertrail #bikepacking #adventurecycling by @oldmanmountainracks

🥈 in The Capitals from @pedalma_cycling 800 km to the four capital cities of Catalunya in 39h31m.I did put @the_mehlman_delivers under some pressure, as did the sweltering heat, but he stayed away by 30 minutes in the end. Chapeau!Really well run event on beautiful, varied terrain. Can’t wait share more about it as I unpack my thoughts from the last few days. by @oldmanmountainracks

A good bike rack is a game changer!I’ve hauled gear across New Zealand, toured Japan, island-hopped through Tahiti, and packed for more weekend bikepacking trips than I can count, all with Old Man Mountain racks.Over the years, I’ve used each one a little differently:PIZZA RACK→ I get sooo many questions about this one! What I’m most excited for in 830 km of The Capitals from @pedalma_cycling starting 6am tomorrow- Getting mad props for my slick 18th century shoe/sock combo. - Some top notch competition- Seeing Roman ruins in Tarragona - Exploring the interior of Catalunya- Pouring water on my baking body at public fountains- Exploring the Pyrenees - Seeing sheep- Stopping into a bar on the first night, seeing how Spain is doing in the World Cup final- Feeling the cool of the highlands at 2,000m- Reaching deep into my 35-hour playlist- Reaching familiar territory near Olot- Eating a morning pastry in Girona - Steep climbs coming into the finish- Avoiding riding into a second sunrise- Eating everything in Barcelona- Swimming in the Mediterranean the morning after📷 by @conormckenzie by @oldmanmountainracks

As soon as I saw this line I couldn't help myself.It would have been a shame not to make the most of the Kazakh approach to Health and Safety, letting us ride our bikepacking rigs right up to the edge of the canyon, no questions asked. My heart may have been going haywire during the last shot as the path narrowed and the margin for error approached zero, but the adrenaline rush was next level. Props to @el.bybike for the tidy drone-operating skills. Not the place you want your drone battery to die above a huge canyon. This world is remarkable. Free will is awesome. Have you tried FLiP cages? FLiP stands for Fast Lock in Place. I liked the utility of cargo cages with dry bags and straps, but it was definitely the most dysfunctional part of my setup. If I needed something out of the bags I had to take the whole thing apart, I’ve had straps break on me and I hated trying to fiddle with straps on cold mornings with frozen hands (hard to imagine with the current temps but trust me lol).With the @oldmanmountainracks FLiP cages and Hemlock Bags I can load and unload faster at camp, access my gear quickly along the trail and trust that my gear is locked and loaded so I can focus on riding.
