We hope to be growing followers on our new page over the coming months so thought we should introduce ourselves! We are musician Lou Shields & vintage lover Stacey Roou, a married couple from Chicago, IL and Madison/Viroqua, WI @loushields @driftlessartifacts @driftlessadventures We bought an old 1916 building in Clarksdale, Mississippi and will be renovating it over the next many months. The building will be a vintage clothing shop, a place to sell Lou’s art and also be our home/apartment in the back! We plan to build a stage to have occasional music too! We love the Mississippi Delta and have been coming to the area for 20 years. We are excited to be a part of the community! We 💙 Clarksdale.

We will be snowbirds in a sense and will also be living at our SW WI cabin in the hottest months, stocking Driftless Artifacts in Viroqua and also around for holidays with family! Health/pain issues have sought us finding warmer weather year round! I like to think of it as the Driftless Region to the Delta Region and the Delta to the Driftless! Both areas we will live are 30 min east of the Mississippi River and we could literally take the Blues Highway 61 all the way, if we wanted! There’s a big WI/MS connection with Paramount Records and we love that history!

We will continue to travel for music and picking vintage and Lou will be booking gigs between WI, MI, IN, IL, MO, KY, TN, MS, LA, AR. We are also so excited to be closer to and basically in between Nashville and New Orleans. Two places we also love so much!

About the name: It comes from a Jack White song on his No Name album. We are big admirers of Jack’s work and have mad respect, it just seemed to fit the area and our plans. To me Old Scratch Blues means so many more things than you’d think: old scratched blues 78 records, old creased photos, old worn jeans (think the perfect patina blue denim w/ whiskers or honeycomb) and of course Clarksdale is the birthplace of Delta Blues with so much history and legends. The name perfectly blends our love for old things, old clothes, and old delta blues music. Fun night @thirdmanrecords @theblueroomnashville for the poetry reading from @thirdmanbooks with @officialjackwhite and @mayacpopa as part of The Southern Festival of Books @sofestofbooks! They both were spectacular poets and we also received the new Collected Lyrics and Selected Writing book that Jack was able to sign! Jack is a modern-day marvel and is an artist in so many different forms. Hearing his spoken word, the language of music, was extra special. *on another note — I’ve been secretly writing a children’s book (about art/music) that Lou will illustrate! Not sure how each @officialjackwhite show we go to gets more incredible but Nashville, that was fun! It rained all day Saturday due to the hurricane but that didn’t stop us from having the time of our lives! Jack White and the bands (openers Snooper Fri and Bully Sat) were on fire both nights (on Friday hearing phonograph blues and down to the delta, aggghhh ✝️) but Sat was an emotional one due to the killer set plus surprise Raconteurs performance. We got the stereo set up in the apartment (back of shop)! This is a long time coming and we are happy! We plan to have a system in the shop too but our other vintage set up is at the cabin so we’re on the hunt for another!

We found a beauty today! She’s a rust-free van we purchased in southern Missouri, a 2004 Ford Econoline E250 Arcadian with 67k original miles! It was well loved and cared for and I feel very lucky to have found it. Especially because it cost the same amount that it would have been to replace transmission number two in the Transit. I’ll be doing a little work on it the next few weeks to get it to look even cooler and to work for a rambin’ musician! Luckily it is road ready and I’ll do my best to keep it that way.
