How we respond to anxious thoughts is how we've learned to protect ourselves. To try to gain certainty, to control outcomes.

There's nothing wrong with trying to protect yourself, except if you are dealing with overwhelming anxiety it can feel like your whole world is becoming smaller and harder. 🫶

Now change is never easy, it's scary and new. But isn't it harder to stay in this feeling of stuckness? To keep checking and re checking things?

To keep retyping texts...

To keep overthinking everything....

To have this feeling of constant dread at the pit of your stomach. It's exhausting.

I've been there. Some days I have to manage it carefully. But change is entirely possible.

When we flip the script of anxiety so that instead of something to fight against, we recognise it's coming from a loving, protective place.
When we start to understand it and work with it, is how we gain clarity and a wee bit more peace. 🧠

Sending you some light if today feels like a darker one ✨️

It's world mental health day....

and that can mean to you whatever you want it to.
I like to use it as a reminder that we need to be talking more about our mental health, just as much as our physical....

Have you checked in with yourself lately?
Maybe today is a reminder for you to pause.

You are important in this world.
If things are feeling a little heavier than usual, reach out to someone you trust. Tell someone how you are feeling. Talk about it. Share.

Sending you a little love today 💜 by @olivehypnotherapy

The answer is in the stuff we are avoiding..... 😬

I know you probably don't want to hear it but I have to tell you that. Our anxiety increases and our confidence drops when we keep avoiding things, putting things in place to avoid discomfort.

When we try to gain complete control and certainty over every single part of our lives....
we aren't living.
We are stuck, whether that's in the past or the future.

Finding joy in the moment feels impossible.

Rewiring our anxious mind takes some work, it takes courage and small steps towards breaking those chains of anxiety.

Very small steps.
Start with one thing that you feel a little uncertain over.
Check once instead of 5 times. Send one less anxious text. Get curious about a situation instead of going straight to worst case scenarios.

This builds confidence and trust in yourself.

You've got this! 🙌 by @olivehypnotherapy

Nature has this wonderful way of showing us just what we need to do, doesn't it? 🍂🍁

As we embrace a new season, it's time to release what we've been holding on to.
To look back and see just how far we've come and allow ourselves to just.... be.

It's my favourite time of the year!
What's yours?

Are you with me?

We are all getting older and a little less sharp than we were, hormones are at play, stress and anxiety are also big factors in forgetting things.

Some days my anxious mind (yes we all have one) might tell me it's dementia, other days it might just tell me I'm a daft bint. 😉

The science says it's to do with repetition, repeated listening and lighting up your brain.
You remember song lyrics easily because music uses rhythm, rhyme, emotion and repetition to lock words into a wide network of brain areas.

A song's rhythm and tune act like a map that guides your brain to the next word. Hearing a song multiple times and using rhyming patterns makes the information predictable and simple to recall.

Music lights up emotional, auditory, and motor areas all at once, creating strong neural pathways.... it becomes automatic... like riding a bike.

Now dates... they are pretty boring aren't they. We don't usually say them repeatedly or with any rhyme to them. Even though we might be emotionally invested in some dates, they still are pretty hard to remember.

Even my mum with dementia can remember the lyrics to so many songs from the 70's. Isn't that amazing!

Also.... if you are learning a new language, add a little music to it... it helps it stick!

The brain is a wonderful thing that we need to train just as much as our bodies 🧠 by @olivehypnotherapy

We can't always see things clearly when we are stuck in fight or flight....

A seemingly simple thing like a walk outside can be incredibly hard to do when you have crippling anxiety, but I promise you, you'll feel at least 40% better after it.

The walking also helps activate bilateral eye movement (similar to EMDR and helps calm the amygdala to move us out of threat mode) which allows you to sort out all those many different things going on in your busy brain.

Nature is a huge tool in terms of our mental health, using and connecting to it more could be something that helps you find a little light in the heavy bits.

I know it's saved me many times.

Do you feel more anxious on a Sunday?

A lot of my clients feel an immense pressure for the week ahead because their mind is already there in it. Their bodies are already pumping out loads of cortisol and adrenaline to get ready for something big, something threatening. Something to be hypervigilant over.

So Sunday instead of being enjoyable is spent trapped in a cycle of dread, overthinking, worrying and predicting. It's a really shit space to be in.

I want to remind you of all those hard things you've already overcome. All those times anxiety said you couldn't do it but you did.
Anxiety improves with action, with doing the thing anyway instead of waiting until we feel ready. With telling that little negative voice in your mind, I've got this.

As confidence rises, anxiety loses it's grip. You begin to trust in you and your capability.

Sending you a little light today, you have absolutely got this.

Seasons changing can stir up so many different feelings....

It might feel really frigging uncomfortable for us, but sometimes it's necessary to shed what's been. Those versions of us that are no longer aligned with who we are now. 🍂

As humans we evolve and grow, we are continuously changing.
I don't think anyone remains the same throughout their lives, as much as we might try to resist it.

Life has this habit of presenting us with things that can turn our world upside down, inevitably that leads to change.

Whether we want it to or not.

Sometimes when we have had so much change thrown at us, we might do all we can to try and control any more upheaval.
When we try to do this our anxiety kicks in... we might feel really irritable, afraid and have physical responses like panic attacks, IBS symptoms or OCD signs.

All these are understandable as our threat response is on high alert.

When small changes come in, we see and feel them as huge threats and we will do everything we can to try to stop them.

For example....

checking things, not going certain places, staying at home, only driving certain routes, over protecting our loved ones, doing the same thing over and over, living in fear daily, scrolling more, health anxiety googling, more paranoid thoughts, plus many more.

This can be such a difficult space to be in

These are your normal responses to what you might deem to be a threat.
You are protecting yourself, but they aren't rational.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works by helping you understand what's going on with your mind when you are stuck in a threat cycle.
We then work to change it to more rational thinking. Enabling you to tap into your subconscious, where those thoughts can be dealt with from a calm and creative mindset.

With change comes freedom. 🍂
