ISLAND IS OUT EVERYWHERE!!!!!

wow… i wrote this song when i was quarantined and in a bigggg relationship anxiety spiral in my bed in 2020. i can’t believe that everyone finally gets to hear it… i’m so grateful for all the help i’ve had along the way.

thank you to the amazing @steph.marziano for producing the track, to @tomtarcher for mixing, to @katietavini for mastering.

thank you to my brother @hxpefully for creating the concept for the artwork (and adapting after i dislocated my shoulder the day before the shoot🤪), to @solomonwarner for photographing and making the vision a reality and to @sl333pingbeauty_ for styling myself and Iphigenia (the mannequin) and to my mama @carriegrantsays for doing my hair!

i wrote this song fresh off a broken heart and at the start of some intense and achey, whirlwind situation… and last night i released this song - my heart so full, surrounded by the people i love, by those who have supported me so deeply in ways i didn’t know possible. this song is like a landmark for me in how much can change in not so much time. thank fuck for that.

Surviving Earth - script to screen // Sometimes you just need two great actors, intentional framing and some great focus pulling. Not everything requires coverage coverage coverage. I love letting scenes run and seeing what happens. People ask how much I let cast move away from original text - you can see here the differences. Let them find their own truth and they will strengthen what’s already there ❤️ also scene 46a was a last minute addition once we were in prep and realised we didn’t have enough transitional scenes lol

Surviving Earth is available to stream now on Amazon Prime 📺🍿

1 YEAR OF ISLAND 🤿🏖️🎹☀️
this song was written in quarantine… in the stillness and quiet i could hear the noise of the my own chaos like a marching band reverberating the walls of my bedroom. island was birthed alone and raised by a village, i’m so grateful to every friend who played on the track, to the closest people in my life for helping make the video, to my sibling for photographing the video shoot and to my brother for directing the video and album art and dancing and literally doing a million and one things to make Island possible.

release day !!!!!!!!! i took so many photos that i want to post of our time making this but i’ll start with these.

i have been undone in deepening waves by @survivingearthfilm. thea’s writing stirs my stillness and touches something at the heart of me.
there is openness and honesty. there is tenderness and integrity.

from my first time reading the script to my third time watching the film, i am undeviatingly drawn in by vlad, by music, by friendship, by fatherhood, by the grappling and tension involved in striving to survive earth.

this film was made with deep love, the openness and warmth on our set was like nothing i’ve ever experienced and i am so grateful for every single person i got to work with and most especially, to @slavkosobin and to @theagajic, my north stars.

if you can, watch this film in cinemas. watch it with your friends, watch it by yourself, watch it with your family, watch it on a date and tell your friends and loved ones and neighbours and letterboxd followers to watch it. x by @oliveisgray
