I’m incredibly proud to have been part of the Phil Andrew team. I needed a minute after the election to reflect.

In a world that can feel filled with chaos and a loss of ethics and truth in politics, I am grateful to have worked on a campaign grounded in honesty, integrity, and purpose. That, in itself, is a victory.

This experience also brought important issues into focus that I hope stay in the spotlight. The overwhelming influence of PAC money, candidates running for multiple offices within the same party, barriers for new voices trying to step forward, and the reality that only 20% of registered voters are participating.

I also met incredible people across District 9, from fellow candidates to constituents.

Most of all, I’m thankful for the incredible volunteers and the talented, dedicated team I had the opportunity to volunteer alongside.

-five years ago today was a day many of us will never forget.

It was my second day back at Kinkeade Early Childhood School in Irving, Texas. I was in the nursery with Zach, rocking him and reading, when my brother called and told me to turn on the TV. I watched in disbelief as the second tower fell.

I called co workers at Kinkeade ECS and asked if school was staying open. It was. I taught an afternoon Pre-K class, and it felt surreal dropping off my six-week-old baby with Miss Linda, whose husband was a police officer, and then heading to work. Eleven students came to class that day.

Tim was at a nuclear weapons facility in Oregon, and dear friends kept Zach and me company that night. Like so many people, we also had friends working in New York City.

Twenty-five years later, the memories of that day remain vivid. by @oliverheather1
