DadWhen I got that phone call on April 11th that you were in the hospital again, I have to admit, I wasn’t as worried. You had been through so much adversity before, but somehow you always pushed through. The doctors even said you were a stubborn miracle at one point. When we were told we should take three days to see if you wake up, I was a little more concerned. But even still, I just felt like you were surely going to wake up. Because why wouldn’t you? You’ve always been so stubborn, and there’s stuff we were supposed to do together. You still wanted to build that studio, you wanted to be at my wedding, and so much more. My world seemed to stop turning when just a day later, I was suddenly called again and told that things had changed. Your brain activity was nonexistent. I know you had it on record that you did not want to be resuscitated…but I have to tell you, I really thought you’d be the same stubborn old man again. I really did think you’d wake up. What’s hurting me is that I don’t remember our last hug. I’ve held your hand in the hospital, just begging, praying that you’d squeeze my hand and tell me you love me. There’s so much I didn’t get to say….so much left to do. And my heart hurts knowing that I won’t have you by my side for it all. I love you. So clearly I didn’t get to go to Disney. To be honest, I entered this competition never expecting to win. Shoot, I didn’t expect to get far at all. I came to represent me. And I’ve been getting caught up in what people think I should be. Sure, I didn’t claim the title. But I gained a family, a little brother…and I met my hero, the man who’s music has gotten me through the last 14 years of my life. Sorry, but explain to me how that’s not winning?
