The trust you develop with strangers in just a few days is so special! 💕🙏

I know I KEEP saying this…but this trip has really changed me! I used to place a lot of value on productivity, achievements and material things but now I realise that isn’t what life is about heheh

I’ve met such interesting people on my travels…I met a couple in Greece & they told me how they’d resigned from their corporate jobs (a lawyer & a business man)…and they decided to go travel & work in hostels for the summer seasons!

I felt so inspired by them…they were in their 50s & were living proof that you can just wake up one day & change your life (it’s scary & unpredictable) but it’s also so empowering to realise you do have some agency & control over your life! 💕💕 by @olivia.black.art

My “art adventure” brought me to Zürich & here are some highlights so far! 💕🎨

Still pinching myself at how kind everyone has beeeeen to me!! 🥹🐞

It makes me very happy to sprinkle my art around the world!

Thank you for joining the adventure ;) by @olivia.black.art

Earlier this year on instagram I came across @olivia.black.art from South Africa and her travels around the world exchanging her art for stays in homes and holiday properties all over the place . She spoke of the places and people she had met and experiences she had had . What a great adventure to have !
In my teens I had a year at art college in Blackpool so this idea really resonated and appealed to me . I wanted Seaview Cottage and Mumbles to be part of her journey. So I reached out to her . I filled in her online form ( good idea Olivia , you can’t be too careful ) and after an initial reply I heard nothing for months ( obviously she was busy travelling and exploring ) Then recently she messaged me and said she would like to come to Mumbles if the offer was still open .
A couple of weeks later she arrived by train to stay in the cottage . 😊

Olivia told me she loved the sense of community in Mumbles . She liked the fact that although it’s a village it’s got everything you need . The coastline reminded her of home . She said she hadn’t realised how much she was missing being by the sea until she arrived here.
And just like all our guests , she too just loved that you can relax and watch the waves from the cosiness of the cottage.

Olivia also loved the colours and decor of the cottage ( pink bathroom and pink toaster & pink disco ball in particular 💕) and has had lots of inspiration for when she has her own home.

Next week she’s off to Vietnam and Thailand and I will be following her adventures with interest.

Thank you @olivia.black.art and safe travels x

Two works I did inspired by my recent travels to Amsterdam 🩷

(both sold)! by @olivia.black.art

What started as a joke to my parents saying “haha imagine I went for a whole year”…actually turned into me being away for a whole year (almost) 🤣 I felt kinda stuck in my same routine & I knew I needed a change! I felt such a strong pull to go back to the UK where I grew up so I booked a ticket on Christmas Day to visit my family (& surprise my little cousins).

I knew I wanted to travel so badly but I didn’t know how I would end up doing it! I also loooooove painting so much and knew that after getting my law degree…I actually wanted to be an ARTIST!

I’m so grateful for the kindness I have been shown my strangers & my sweet sweet family! I FEEL SO GRATEFUL I get to combine my two big passions: creativity and travel!

This year broke old ways of thinking, old habits & structures & gave me something NO AMPUNT OF MONEY CAN EVER BIY YOU…HOPE, FAITH & the confidence to really put myself out there and pursue my dreams!

And GUESS WHAT??? The journey isn’t over yet…

I’m heading to Vietnam 🇻🇳 & Thailand🇹🇭 at the end of the month!! by @olivia.black.art

imagine making murals so incredible, people from around the world open their homes to you in exchange for your art. @olivia.black.art is living the dream.

and her path was anything but linear. after law school, she became a full-time artist with no formal training, and started trading brushstrokes for beds as she journeyed across the globe.

she wouldn’t have met any of these hosts if it weren’t for @instagram, her discovery platform for these “art adventures,” spanning Paris, Germany, Spain, Portugal, India, Palma, Belize, Finland, Switzerland, the USA, Australia, and New Zealand.

and when the travel bug hits, she uses @instagram to sell fine art prints to fund her continued adventures through Europe. by @olivia.black.art
