Growing up I always wanted to have a sibling to run around with, play games, tell stories to, and spend time with. When John came into my life my dreams came true I finally had the sibling I always wanted (even if he was the spitting image of sheldon cooper) but they always say the best things come in three’s so here’s to our newest sibling Gunnar!! Thank you Lord for blessing me with not one but TWO amazing little brothers, I am forever lucky and grateful to be your big sister👶🏻🤍

Growing up we all form insecurities about ourselves, whether they are brought upon us from others words or because of the way we look at ourselves, we all have insecurities. When I was born I wasn’t born like my friends and others I was born different, I was born with a rare birth defect called Poland Syndrome that only affects every 1 in 100,000 babies. I never thought much of it until I got to middle school and highschool where people just aren’t as kind as I thought. from changing for gym class, going swimming, and wearing certain clothes it would always bring forward this insecurity and made me face many challenges. I’ve spent years trying to hide this. For the longest time I was only telling people that we’re close to me that would understand me and not judge me because I was just a little different from them. But what do I have to hide? So what I was born different than everyone else but what is there to be insecure about? Sure I’m born different but that doesn’t make ME different, no matter what, people are always going to have something to say whether it’s to your face or behind your back people are always going to talk. I’ve been able to get through the tears, the bullying, and the talking behind my back and I still love me for me! I was born this way for a reason and I wouldn’t change a thing about it because at the end of the day I love me for who I am and who I was created to be, I wouldn’t be able to have the confidence I have in myself without the love and support from my mom, dad, and friends who never made me feel like I was any different. I’ve learned that you should love yourself for who you are as well. Never let anyone’s opinions or rumors define who you are as a person. You are loved, you are cared for and you are amazing just the way you are🤍

This past week I’ve been able to reflect a lot on my “why” in softball, for years the question “what is your why?” has always been a question I’ve struggled to answer, I love softball, I love the grind, I love friendships but that was never a strong enough answer for me.

Today I finally found my why. My athletes. Not only the players I coach but the group of girls I give lessons to are the reason I strive to be the best role model, friend, coach, and teammate I can be. Earlier this week i spent a majority of a lesson just talking with my athlete helping her decide if she wants to continue her career, at the end of our lesson her dad told me it was the first time he saw his daughter smile in weeks. While this broke my heart it also helped me understand how much just sitting down and talking or coming up with some terrible jokes to make girls laugh can have an impact on them.

Whether it’s a pregame speech, a quick pep talk in between innings, pulling girls to the side to have a heart to heart, spending a majority of a lesson just talking and being an ear to listen to, some terrible dance move, or being the hype girl my athletes are my driving force each and every day.

Being a coach while playing at the same time isn’t always the easiest task but it sure is the most rewarding, I am thankful each and every day God gave me this opportunity to be able to be a light and a role model to each of the young girls I work with and I wouldn’t trade this chaotic schedule for anything in this world.

To the sport that owes me nothing but has given me everything, thank you for allowing me to spread my love for the game onto the younger generations. 🤍🤍 by @oliviaschulz_
