Picture for my future self to be reminded that 2026 was the year I said F-it, and bought the ugly but comfortable shoes for Easter Vigil. by @olivobampo

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 Relieved and deeply satisfied to have at least one Evangelist under my belt and very grateful to have support from artists I admire so much: Hannah De Priest, soprano (my co-Evangelist); Jason J. Moy, Jacob Reed, and Cora Swenson Lee (continuo gold); and Richard Webster, whose English recits for the St Mark Passion should become the standard performance version for native English-speaking audiences.

Special shout out to Taya König-Tarasevich, my partner for the obbligato-continuo aria “Erbarme dich.” I may never be able to replicate the emotional moment we created together. Bach forces me to concentrate so much, but I was buoyed by her superb musicality.

Third picture is with David McFerrin, who sang Jesus and with whom I would gladly Evangelize anywhere (at A=440).

Thanks to Marilyn Rea Beyer for the action shot! by @olivobampo

Chicago’s own Oliver Camacho joins us for Bach’s St. Mark Passion!

Tenor Oliver Camacho has been praised as “superbly stylish” by the Chicago Tribune and for offering “sumptuous depth and storyteller’s drama” by Chicago Classical Review. A proud graduate of Chicago’s Lane Tech High School where he was mentored by George Rico, Oliver Camacho went on to study music at Northwestern University and historically informed performance practice at Amherst Early Music Festival and Early Music Vancouver. He has been a soloist with the Newberry Consort, Bella Voce, Chicago Choral Artists, Bach Cantata Vespers, Madison Bach Musicians, North Shore Choral Society, and Distant Worlds Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a producer and co- host of ‘Opera Box Score’ podcast, and is Music Director of Classical WFMT, where he hosts ‘Listening to Singers’. by @olivobampo

If you’d told me it would happen in Chicago, I never would’ve believed you... but here we are! I’m beyond excited to be a guest on @operaboxscore one of the liveliest and most unique classical music podcasts out there.

The episode goes live on February 19th on all platforms! 🎧

A huge thank you to the brilliant @olivobampo for the wonderful conversation and for making me feel right at home. We talked about Mozart and Così fan tutte, of course, but also the importance of bel canto, my impressions of American audiences, and, last but not least, sports! After all, athletes and singers really do play in the same league... plus, the Olympics are going on at home right now! 🇮🇹🏆
