Wrapping up 2025. A year of 11 journeys abroad, hands deep in cabin renovations and a sharper focus in training. And also a year of loss, as we said goodbye to our beloved grandfather.

I’ve always felt at home on islands. Standing here in the Faroe Islands, wearing a sweater knitted by my mum, that feeling is stronger than ever. Maybe that’s because I grew up spending my summers on a small island in the Gulf of Bothnia, far from capitals, headlines and centres of power. That might be one of the reasons I love the Faroe Islands so much. Beyond the dramatic landscapes and the shared Nordic heritage, there’s a feeling of being on the edge of the map and perfectly content to be there.

And one more thing: Am I the only Swede who finds Faroese Danish so much easier to understand than Danish from Denmark? taken in Faroe Islands by @olle_burman
