film and iPhone shots i captured from last weekend’s mushroom ID walk with @thesolusway & @forageurban in the woods of @careyssecretgarden as part of the Secret Fungi Festival a beautiful few hours spent walking and wandering the forest, searching for and learning about the nature that more often than not gets passed by and ignored in our busy lives. For a few hours, we switched off from digital, met new people, encountered mushrooms, plants, trees and wildlife, and learned about Mother Nature. in a time where we are being pushed to maximise, optimise, measure, digitise - gathering in the woods to switch off and learn about nature feels like a powerful rebellion against the currents of consumerism and our attention based economy. Intentionally placing our attention on free time not screen time. Meeting each other in our shared space of a forest. looking to host another in November - watch this space 🍄 let me know if you’d be interested in joining thanks to @forageurban @jurassiccoastmushrooms @careyssecretgarden 💧🍄🌲🌱 #outdoors #nature #mushroom #mushroomidentification #foraging by @olli.solus
SOLUS PRESENTS: THE RIPPLE EFFECT V - RIPPLEWEEN 💀🥀⏳ Saturday 31st October. 8 til late. Chaplin’s & the Cellar Bar, Boscombe. 200 of you are already on the guestlist. Mad. Arrival before 9:30 is recommended. Chaplin’s will be busy and being on the guestlist doesn’t guarantee entry, so first there, first in. After that, it’s one in one out. Heavy metal from Nulla Salus until midnight. Ripple DJ sets from midnight to 3am. If metal isn’t your thing, there’s plenty of space to talk and settle in elsewhere in Chaplin’s. Or head downstairs, give them a listen and get involved. Costumes are a must. The venue will be dressed for Halloween. Make an effort. Free entry until 10pm, then £3 on the door (Chaplin’s usual policy). Sign up via the link in bio so we know who’s coming and can send you updates and photos from the night. It’s an honour for The Ripple Effect to be doing something at Chaplin’s, one of the cultural gems of Bournemouth and Dorset. Everything you do makes a ripple. Correfoc ‘Fire Run’ of Campos, Mallorca 👹💥 We stumbled upon this traditional festivity of chaos in this small town whilst on the hunt for a crepe shop that I’d been assured was really good… Sadly it had closed since the last visit and subsequently turned into a waffle and ice cream shop. Denied pancakes, we indulged on their offering anyway. Very nice nonetheless. A lot of the roads were closed off, so we asked someone what was going on that night. Upon hearing about this massive show of devils, drums, flames and sparks, I ran back to the car, slapping Havaianas along the street, on a quest to retrieve my film camera. The annual celebration sees locals from various towns and villages across Mallorca dress as devils or dimonis, and blast fire, unleashing crackers and fireworks into the streets. as if in a health & safety officer’s fever dream, younger people are encouraged to wear a hoodie and join in - dancing and running alongside the devils as an umbrella of sparks snap, crack and scream around them. I got myself into various precarious situations trying to snap these film photos and iphone videos. Many arm hairs were lost that night. For the next three weeks, I was hoping and praying that the photos had come out the way I’d envisaged them in my head. They did not disappoint. Shout out @snapsphotoservices on the speedy development as always 🎞️🫶 Wanted to share this glimpse into a fascinating folk tradition and one of the most chaotic and spectacular thinfs I’ve ever seen Fair trade for missing the pancake? Perhaps. by @olli.solus
Ye in Portugal. Probably the only phone videos of a performance I will actually re-watch. Flawless performance of non stop bangers throughout his entire discography. Production, stage design, lights, and art fused together to provide a generational show for the masses. A stadium of 35,000 fans belting out every word. Powerful and moving. This man’s music has helped me in so many ways, showing me the greatness available within all of us when we truly believe in ourselves, picking me up when I’ve felt lost, and pushing me further when I already feel like I’m giving something my all. 🐐 by @olli.solus
