we stopped at Auchan to stock up on all things "only in France" .. while we were inside the store 3 migrants were checking out our bikes & bike cover .. but when they saw us returning they went on their way 😕
.
Camping Calais a la Plage was a good campsite for a very early Shuttle 🚆 the following morning !!
.
& now it is time to go home to our own lovely family 🫂 🤗 🥰
we've missed them all so much 🥹 .. & the cats have missed us too 🐈 🐈‍⬛
.

nous retrouvons enfin nos chers amis qui habitent à Soissons ⛪️ 🇫🇷 .. quel week-end privilégié nous avons passé avec ce couple merveilleux et leur charmante famille 🫂 🤗 🥰

it was the weekend of the Soissons "Fête du Haricot 2026", celebrating the region's famous white bean, with free concerts & food markets

a stroll with our friends around Château de Coucy 🏰 in Picardy

"The château was built in the 13th century. It was occupied by German forces in September 1914 during the First World War. In March 1917, during the German withdrawal to the Hindenburg Line as part of Operation Alberich, the town of Coucy was devastated and the château, including its great keep (donjon) and towers, was deliberately destroyed, leaving it in ruins to this day."

breaking up our journey east towards Soissons, we enjoyed 2 days rest on a premium riverside pitch, just watching the massive boats going back & forth along the sweeping bend of the River Seine🛥️ ⛴️
.
we have stayed here before .. it is an excellent campsite 😍🏕️ beneath the 12th century medieval ruins of Château Gaillard (built by Richard the Lionheart)
.
the riverfront Petit-Andely features charming half-timbered Norman houses, local cafes, and the Saint-Sauveur Church
.

we started to head east to meet up with our dear friends in Soissons at the weekend

1 night at Camping International de la Hallerais near Dinan, to eat, swim & sleep 🍕🏊💤👌

we have been to Dinan several times before, however there appears to be an excellent cycle path here alongside the La Rance river into Dinan 👌

5 nights just to chill 💪👌🥳 in such beautiful surroundings .. fabulous gardens and a château !

it was an easy cycle into Quimper, which is such a delightful small city .. where we had more crêpes flambéed with Grand Marnier 🥞😋👌

the campsite's outdoor pool was closed for the season, but the indoor pool was fabulous 🏊😍

Concarneau has two distinct areas: the modern town on the mainland and the medieval Ville Close, a walled town on a long island in the centre of the harbour
Historically, the old town was a centre of shipbuilding; its ramparts date from the 14th century
Also in the Ville Close is the fishing museum.
The Ville Close is connected to the town by a bridge

I've learnt a new word today .. we had an evening cycle ride along the "Corniche" 🚲 🚲
there were no-parking road signs saying "dimanche : corniche sans voitures"
.
"A corniche is a road on the side of a cliff or mountain, with the ground rising up on one side of the roadway and falling away on the other. The English language has adopted the word from the French term route à corniche or "road on a ledge", itself derived from the Italian cornice, for ledge"

we have finally returned to the lovely Camping de la Plage after 8 years 😍
it's just the best site with direct access to the fabulous sandy beach of Plage De Kervillen
.
there is a small pool that I had all to myself 👌
.
we had plans to cycle into La Trinité-sur-Mer and also via Le Men Du into Carnac .. but in the end we did neither of those & just chilled on the 🏖️ 🌞😘
.
Willow Warbler ?? 🐦🌳💚
. we had an excellent dinner in their bar/restaurant Aux Terrasses De La Plage, with live entertainment & magnificent views of Quiberon Bay 🌅
we are all moules-frites'd out now !

the port of Saint-Goustan is a historic, picturesque harbour district located in the commune of Auray
it was named after Saint Goustan (the patron saint of sailors and fishermen)
it was a major trading hub for wine and grain during the 16th and 17th centuries
Benjamin Franklin, the American statesman landed at this port in 1776 to seek French support for American independence, stepping onto a dock that now bears his name
