Those of you who joined the last Intensive already got a little glimpse of what’s coming next.

My mission is to combine the worlds of psychology and dance.

From now on, my intensives won’t just focus on how you move, but also on how you think, feel, perform and grow as a dancer. I’ll be integrating evidence-based psychological tools that help you build confidence, overcome mental blocks, improve performance, and develop a stronger connection with yourself. Both on and off the dance floor ❤️

We’ll keep dancing hard.
But we’ll also dance smart.

We’ll still sweat.
We’ll still push our limits.
But from now on, we’ll train our minds just as much as our bodies ✨🫂

Finally, it’s time.

I’ve been carrying this vision with me for the past two years and now, after completing my Master’s degree in Psychology, I finally have the time, the knowledge and the capacity to bring it to life.

And with that, the journey of OC Mind & Motion officially begins ✨

Hi, I’m Olly👋🏼 A dance teacher, psychologist and the person behind Mind&Motion.

My dance journey started 15 years ago. Starting with Hip-Hop before exploring a variety of styles. Over time I discovered that my passion and strengths lay in Commercial and Heels.

Since then I’ve dedicated myself to growing as a dancer, learning from different teachers, exploring new styles and travelling to expand my knowledge and experience.

But there was another journey happening alongside it all: psychology.

For seven years, I studied psychology while continuing to dance, teach, and develop as an artist. Along the way, I had the opportunity to apply psychological theory in different professional settings, including the LMU University Hospital, the Max Planck Institute and other psychiatries. I worked with a wide range of psychological conditions, including autism, depression, anxiety disorders, personality disorders and PTSD.

Yet throughout all those years one topic kept bringing my two worlds together: dance psychology.

My interest in this field grew throughout my academic journey but one milestone made the idea behind Mind&Motion feel especially real: my Bachelor’s thesis.

I designed a dance psychology experiment exploring flow — that state in which you become fully immersed in what you’re doing, where movement feels almost effortless and you lose track of time.

My research explored how flow can be encouraged through social interaction in dance, particularly through partner work and guided social interaction.

And that was one of the moments when the vision started to take shape.

What if we could bring psychology and dance together more intentionally? What if we could use psychological knowledge not only to improve our performance, but also to better understand ourselves as dancers?

Step by step, that idea became OC Mind&Motion 🧠🩰

A space where psychology meets dance — where we work not only on the steps, but also on the mindset behind them.

What scares you more? Performing in front of an audience or dancing in front of a camera? 👀

In this Mind&Motion session, we explored our fears using a technique inspired by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): The Exposure.

Instead of avoiding the situations that scare us, we gradually approach them to create a habit and build new experiences. Step by step, we can challenge our expectations and discover that we’re capable of more than we think.

Because confidence grows through experience. 🧠🩰

This is what happens when psychology meets dance. 🤍

Sometimes, I feel like we forget why we started dancing in the first place.

We all started somewhere. Probably not because we wanted to be the best, have the perfect technique or impress everyone around us. We started because it felt good. Because we loved the music, the movement, the freedom. Because it was FUN.

But somewhere along the way, things change. We become so focused on improving, getting every move right and keeping up with others that we start comparing ourselves, criticizing our progress and putting pressure on ourselves to be better.

And don’t get me wrong, wanting to grow is a beautiful thing. But not if we lose the joy that made us fall in love with dance in the first place.

So here’s your reminder to go back to the roots. To dance without overthinking every move. To make mistakes, laugh about them and enjoy the process.

Keep growing. Keep challenging yourself. But don’t forget to have fun along the way 🤎

Because at the end of the day, we’re here because we LOVE to dance. Let’s not forget that. 🪩

HOW CAN MINDFULNESS HELP YOU PERFORM BETTER?

Mindfulness can be understood through three key elements: INTENTION, ATTENTION & ATTITUDE.

#1 INTENTION
Before you dance, ask yourself: Why am I here? What do I want to bring into this performance?

Maybe you want to express yourself, connect with the music, feel confident or simply allow yourself to enjoy dancing.

Your intention gives your attention a direction.

#2 ATTENTION
Now bring your attention to what is actually happening right now.

The music. Your body. Your breath. Your movement. The space around you.

Instead of getting lost in “Did I do that step right?” or “What do they think of me?” you can notice when your mind drifts and gently bring it back to the present moment.

#1 ATTITUDE
And then: How do you respond to what you notice?

Maybe you make a mistake. Maybe you feel nervous. Maybe you don’t like how you look on camera.

Mindfulness doesn’t mean pretending those things aren’t happening. It means noticing them without immediately judging yourself for them.

You notice. You accept. You come back.

And that’s where mindfulness can become a powerful tool for performance: not by making you feel nothing, but by helping you stay connected to what you’re doing instead of getting carried away by your thoughts.

At the beginning of every session I introduce you to a psychological concept.

Together we establish a concept that we keep coming back to throughout the class and that you can actually apply to your dance, your performance and the way you approach challenges.

These concepts are rooted in evidence-based approaches from psychotherapy. Over the past years, I’ve taken some of the concepts I’ve learned and adapted them specifically for dancers to help with performance, emotions, self-confidence and the fears that can come up when we dance.

Because sometimes, working on your dance isn’t just about the body. It’s also about what happens in your head 🧠🩰
