“Wear Do Garments Gather?”

An outdoor installation by Oluuji and Louis Winter, would be showing at Stephen Juba Park (between Bannatyne and Mcdermott) on September 27 from 6PM to 12AM, for the 2025 Nuit Blanche Winnipeg. @nbwpg

some 2025 highlights. biggest year of my art career by a mile, and we’re really just getting started.

1-3. conceptualized and designed an outdoor DJ booth with @ovalab for @sobasically.ca installation at the forks for Nuit Blanche Winnipeg (@nbwpg)

4-7. was on the radio THREE TIMES this year, twice with @cbcmanitoba and once @ckuw_959fm for different projects, mainly for an AI project i’ve been working on all year that i’ll share more on in 2026.

8. participated in a 3 month AI Mentorship Residency with @vp_media_arts titled “Breaking the System”, a creative and critical exploration of the potential of AI in the arts, where i conceptualized my current project. i got to present my research at the end of the residency and it was great getting to talk about AI in art.

9-10. was invited to the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba’s home on behalf of Toba Center (@tobacentremb) for the Bison on The Boulevard Project.

this is a non exhaustive list of course, there’s been many other highlights this year. grateful to God for a great year and excited for 2026 😤. by @oluuji

I had the honour of being selected as one of 25 artists to design and paint a concrete bison sculpture for @tobacentremb and @graffitiartprog . An opportunity I’d forever appreciate and hope the kids do too ❤️.

The next Riding Mountain Artist-in-Residence for 2026 is multidisciplinary artist Oluuji (@oluuji)! 🏞️

During his stay in the Deep Bay Cabin, he will be working on a slow image-making project responding to the environment of the Park, combining landscape photography, self-portraiture, personal items, and found materials.

"I hope the park influences the project by slowing down my usual ways of working and making me more responsive to environment, material, and process," says Oluuji. "Much of my practice already involves layering, experimentation, and attentiveness to context, but I think working within the conditions of Riding Mountain will push that further by allowing the landscape, weather, and pace of daily life to shape creative decisions more directly."

Le prochain artiste résident du Parc national du Mont-Riding pour 2026 est l'artiste multidisciplinaire Oluuji! 🏞️

Lors de son séjour à la cabane de Deep Bay, il travaillera sur un projet de création d'images lente, en réaction directe à l'environnement du parc, combinant la photographie, l'autoportrait, des objets personnels et des matières trouvées.

« J'espère que le parc influencera le projet en m'amenant à ralentir mon rythme de création habituel et à réagir davantage à l'environnement, aux matières et à la démarche, » a dit Oluuji. « Ma pratique implique déjà beaucoup la superposition, l'expérimentation et l'attention portée au contexte, mais je crois que de créer dans le milieu du mont Riding poussera cette démarche plus loin en permettant au paysage, à la météo et au rythme du quotidien d'orienter plus directement les décisions créatives. »

✨ Please welcome our second THIRD SHIFT artist, Oluuji Olusoga!! 🎨✨

Oluuji Olusoga (he/him) is a self-taught Nigerian-born visual artist based in Winnipeg, Canada, working between painting, installation, textile, and media arts. He uses each medium as a way of thinking through different conditions of experience and allowing ideas to shift form depending on context. His multidisciplinary practice explores diaspora as a relational identity, examining the systems of memory that influence how identity is constructed and maintained in the diaspora and navigating the tension between wanting to belong and maintaining one’s Indigenous identity. His work draws from both institutional archives and quieter forms of archiving that exists in objects, garments, images etc.

🌙 “Wear Do Garments Gather” is an installation addressing the growing global crisis of textile waste by transforming discarded garments into sculptural forms. Using salvaged clothing and excess textiles as a primary medium, this project seeks to breathe new life into materials that have been designed as waste while reflecting on the complex social and environmental systems embedded in everyday clothing.

This work was made spontaneously as the start of a collaborative project between Winnipeg-based artists, Oluuji and Theo The Third. The duo are gearing up for a joint exhibition later this summer.
