We’re so excited about our new VIOLIST ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Seán Hurley a 3rd year BMus student in MTUCSM, studying violin with Katherine Hunka. Although his principal instrument is the violin, he keeps the viola in his back pocket! Studying viola with Simon Aspell, he just finished a NSQF tour with the Meliora String Quartet, performing on both violin and viola. He also played alongside the Ulster Youth Orchestra in the viola section!!! Seán is super excited to play with his friends in the OLYMPIA! He definitely has big shoes to fill!!! R.I.P. We had a wonderful ten days at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival 2026 🌸
We recieved masterclasses from Alex Redington, Ryan Meehan from the Calidore Quartet, Máiréad Hickey, and Chris Marwood. We also premiered Daniel Luke Smith’s lovely piece ‘A Shape Becoming’.
We learnt so much over the course of the festival and made some lovely new friends! We were delighted & very grateful for the opportunity to take part 🌻

Our violist Charlie is sadly leaving us to begin his studies in the Royal Conservatoire The Hague ⭐️ we’re really sad to see him go, but we’ve had the best time playing together over the last two years. 👯‍♀️👯‍♂️
However, this is not the end of Olympia! (There will NEVER be an end of Olympia). We’re looking forward to another year playing more fun music with a NEW violist 🎻 We’re so so excited! All will be revealed very soon, stay tuned. 😘
A new era of Olympia! 😽😼😹😻

Two brilliant young string quartets come to Kinsale on Friday 19th June at 8pm. See NSQF.ie!

These two outstanding groups are both heading for the West Cork Chamber Music Festival at the end of June. The Meliora will go on to present NSQF.ie’s summer tour in August and the Olympia Quartet, recently featured on the Tommy Tiernan show, have played concerts to great acclaim around Cork, Kerry and Dublin.

They return for their second appearance at St. Catherine’s with Mendelssohn’s gorgeous E flat major quartet, Borodin’s famous Nocturne and Janáček’s spectacular ‘Intimate Letters’. The quartets will come together to end the evening with the glorious first movement of Mendelssohn’s Octet. taken in Kinsale, Ireland by @olympiaquartet
