Today marks two years since my dad, Maurice Troop passed away.

For the past week, I have been unusually emotional, and my dad has been so heavy on my mind. It did not even occur to me that this was the month he passed until I woke up this morning and remembered what occurred on this day not too long ago.

I remember exactly where I was when I received the news. I remember the feelings, the disbelief, and the weight of that moment. Grief is strange because you never really know how death will affect you until it happens. Sometimes you feel angry. Sometimes you feel numb. Sometimes you manage to hold yourself together. Today, I am simply sad.

I miss my dad. I am sad about the conversations we never had, the things he never got to see, the moments we never shared, and everything that happened after he was gone. So much has happened over these last two years, and there have been countless times when I wished I could call him. He was so passionate about certain topics, and I know we would have had a good time talking, laughing, debating, and carrying on. He would have gotten such a hoot out of so many things. I still keep the last voicemail he sent me and here and there I’ll listen to it.

I truly believe my dad had more life to live and more moments to experience, but God saw fit to call him home. I may not understand it, but I accept that life and death are both part of God’s plan.

People say the pain never completely goes away. You simply learn how to carry it. Most days, I carry it well. But today feels especially heavy. I look this picture often, because he was so happy here leaving church 🙌🏾.

I miss you, Dad, I miss your voice, your presence, and all the moments we should have had. Two years later, you are still loved, still remembered, and still deeply missed.

In loving memory of my father, Maurice Troop. 🤍

So fall back into your purpose, not your comfort zone.
