Authenticity is Omar Benson Miller’s cheat code. 🎭

At the 2026 Lexus UPTOWN Honors, we celebrated Omar Benson Miller (@omarbensonmiller) with the Amplified Impact Award. From channeling his father’s Mississippi roots for his poignant portrayal in Sinners to still feeling the impact of his The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray role, Omar is proving that excellence knows no bounds.

“I want to be part of the solution and not the problem,” Miller told UPTOWN in the cover story, Omar Benson Miller and the Power of Portrayal.

Watch Miller’s acceptance speech in the fourth slide.

The cotton field sequences in SINNERS reflect a seamless collaboration between the Production Design and Visual Effects teams, uniting practical craftsmanship with large-scale digital innovation. Cotton plant lookalikes were used on set to ground Omar Benson Miller’s performance in tangible authenticity like his sharecropper grandfather experienced, while more than three million VFX plants were integrated to extend the landscape into a vast horizon. This carefully calibrated balance between physical and digital artistry not only achieved cinematic breadth, but also honors the lived experiences and personal histories that both Miller and Director/Writer/Producer Ryan Coogler brought to the narrative. Now nominated for a record-breaking 16 Academy Awards including Best Visual Effects. by @omarbensonmiller

The Juke Joint roof burn in SINNERS is a masterclass in mixing practical and digital effects. 50+ previs versions guided the actors’ movement and camera choreography to ensure the full oner worked in perfect harmony with Ludwig Goransson’s score. The SFX team safely burned the roof on the real set while capturing it on multiple IMAX film camera, and the VFX team enhanced the scene by layering digital fire simulations, sparks, smoke, and drifting embers, creating depth and scale. Collaboration across Costume Design, Production Design, and Sound ensured that every detail, from textures to timing, felt authentic and immersive. Michael B. Jordan delivers a remarkable dual performance as “Smoke” and “Stack” in SINNERS, brought to life and made visually seamless on screen by the Visual Effects team. Using the innovative “halo rig”, technical dollies, and advanced VFX techniques to merge shots, the team captured full-body twin sequences, cigarette passes, and intricate fight choreography, allowing both characters to interact naturally. Every movement, interaction, and reaction - including the subtle distinction of dimples appearing for one twin but not the other using specific facial muscles—remains entirely Michael’s, highlighting his dual performance while VFX heightens the realism and dramatic impact of the twins.
