What is this plant? 🌿

From protecting the Israelites on the night of Passover... to cleansing skin disease... to hanging on the cross beside Christ Himself — Hyssop shows up again and again at the most sacred moments in Scripture.

And now it's growing in my own garden! This is the first video in a series exploring the plants of the Bible — what they meant then, and what we can still learn from them now. The blog post covering all 12 verses is live today on omasgardens.com 🌿, and the book is coming soon. Know, Grow, Love: The Plants of the Bible — starting with Hyssop. Join me on a journey to discover these amazing plants.

POV: you told yourself you'd skip the gym but ended up moving 200lbs of soil anyway 😂 What started as a simple bed refresh turned into the best workout of my week 😂 Peat moss as a step bench, @blackkowmanure as my weights and @vego_garden beds as the gym - spring gardening really does hit different. Bed is ready, body is tired, soul is happy 🌱"

Aphids are small, soft body insects

They show up in Spring and love to feast on the soft tiny baby leaves coming up on your plants. They can be white, gray or black. Luckily They can often be controlled with soap and water.

Take a spray bottle and about a half a tablespoon of dawn dishwashing Liquid with water. Spray with a firm solid spray and blast them right off the plant. The soap will dry out their bodies.

Come back every day and check your plants. If you see them returning, spray them again. Sometimes, it can take 3 to 4 days to get the entire batch taken care of.

Plant basil beneath and around your plants. Aphids don't like basil so it's especially nice to plant it below roses.

If soap alone does not work, use neem oil. Get the pure oil 100% cold pressed neem. It's from the neem tree and add 1/2 tsp to this size bottle. Spray the same way.

Are you seeing Aphids in your garden?

Cool mornings, warm coffe, soft colors

Fall has arrived amazing really, how good it feels to wonder through the garden on a fall morning. How just the slight dial down of the temperature changes everything. The plants feel happier, greener, their colors brighter. The veggies smell so good like they too have awakened a bit more after the consistent heat. It just feels so good to walk through the flowers at 8am and not be sweating😊 And this shirt dress by @oddbirdcompany fits right in with its beautiful sky blue color. Like its a part of the garden. Not an add I grabbed it during their latest sale and i couldn't love it more. Code in my bio and comments.

What about your mornings. Are you feeling the dial down too? by @omasgardens

What stunningly beautiful food we have😍

This bed is so striking with the bright red and green of tabasco and cayan. It's lovely to look at, and I can't help but be thankful for what a gift we have to be able to grow something that looks like this.

Genisus 1:29 "And God said, Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. by @omasgardens

Not bamboo. Not winter-proof. Doing it anyway!

And i'm using the @vego_garden rolling planter to help me win the weather battle!

☑️Free-gliding locking wheels lets you move it for sun or cold snaps.

☑️Watering tube sends water straight to the wicking cell A built-in gauge shows when to refill

☑️24" D x 22" H, 30-gallon capacity, 14" soil depth.

This is my first time growing sugar cane! Wish me luck , but I sure hope these beauties take off. This is purple sugarcane , because it couldn't get any cooler than purple canes!! If you're trying with me , plant node up. No more than 2 to 3 inches down and keep the soil moist , but not soggy. I'll need to add some mulch to the bed , just to help keep the soil moisture levels intact.

Have you grown sugarcane? If not, and you're facing the same weather challenges, I am Grab some and grow with me and take an extra five percent off this awesome rolling planter , using my code at checkout! Omasgardens5!

This year's sunflower stalks are ready for the garden!

Did not take them too long to dry in this heat! I'll be putting them up as teepee's in a couple of my beds. Look for the video on that tomorrow. You can read all about using sunflower stalks in your garden on my website at omasgardens.com

And sunflower stalks can be a bit poky. So wear your sleeves and good shoes. My favorite sleeves are @farmersdefense and garden boots are from @trudave_daisy . Find my discount codes in my bio And in the comments!

So many something else's....

Every year I tell myself I may not keep them this year. And then I keep them. Because how can I not? Sunflowers are the gift that keeps on giving year after year. We are blessed with their beautiful flowers, the birds and us are blessed with their wonderful seeds. The leaves can be eaten and when they all die and completely dry down.We are blessed once again with stalks that can be used for so many things.
