I LEFT MY PURSE AT A RESTAURANT WITH MORE THAN $1,000 CASH INSIDE. 😳

And didn’t notice for THREE HOURS.

That was Palm Springs, 1986.

The wonderful people at the restaurant found it — purse, cash, EVERYTHING — and overnighted it back to me.

Did I learn my lesson?

ABSOLUTELY.

Did that lesson require approximately 47 crossbody bags?

That is not the point. 😂

Thirty-nine years later, I prefer to think of my collection as a highly sophisticated purse-loss prevention system.

One for travel. One for dinner. One for shopping. One because it was cute. And several whose purpose is frankly none of your business. 😂

So yes, I’ve got more crossbodies than common sense.

But I have NOT left one in Palm Springs since 1986.

CASE CLOSED. 💅😂

Now tell me: how many crossbody bags officially qualifies as “too many”?

Apparently one forgotten purse in Palm Springs was all it took. 😂

Some people learn to be more careful.

I learned to buy crossbodies.

LOTS of crossbodies.

Thirty-nine years later, I’m calling it preparedness. My husband may have another word for it. 😏

Besides… is it really too many if they’re all different?

Asking for absolutely no one. 😂

Grandparenting: the only workout where the weights TALK BACK. 😂❤️

We bend. We chase. We lift. We negotiate with tiny people who have very strong opinions about snacks.

And somehow… we wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Because somewhere between the animals, the sticky fingers, y the endless questions and the “Omi, LOOK!” for the 47th time… ordinary little days become the memories they’ll carry long after they’vhe stopped reaching for our hands.

I’ve traveled far enough to know this:

Adventure doesn’t always require a passport.
Sometimes it’s a 4-H fair. Sometimes it’s feeding an alpaca. Sometimes it’s a Ferris wheel. And sometimes it’s simply getting down low enough to see the world through a child’s eyes again.

So here’s to the grandparents who SHOW UP. Who get on the floor. Who say yes to one more ride. Who know childhood moves ridiculously fast — and are soaking up every bit of it while we can.

I’ve crossed oceans, climbed mountains, wandered through countries I couldn’t pronounce properly, and collected more passport stamps than I can count.

And apparently my toughest assignment yet is keeping up with GRANDCHILDREN. 😂❤️

No jet lag required. No currency exchange. No carry-on.

Just comfortable shoes, snacks, and the stamina of a woman who refuses to admit she needs a nap. 😂

Turns out some of life’s biggest adventures come in very small packages.

And I wouldn’t miss a single one.

Well, here it is.

1,000 of you showed up, so I figured it was time you saw who’s actually behind “Keep Your Roots. Keep Your Wings.”

(Yes, the Hallelujah Chorus is playing. No, I will not apologize for the drama.) 🙌😂

Spoiler: It’s a 64-year-old woman who lived in a castle in Austria, has been ghosted by a spider monkey, once made small talk with Muhammad Ali and didn’t know it — and apparently poses with dinner like it’s a red-carpet moment. 🐟💅

This is me.

No filter. No apology. Glasses on my head because that’s just where they live now.

1,000 of you decided my chaos was worth following. That’s not nothing. That’s a community.

So welcome to the table. Literally. Tonight it’s a whole grilled fish and fries. Don’t judge. 😂

Here’s to the next 1,000 — and to never, ever shrinking with age.

I said when we hit 1K, I’d finally show you the woman behind the caricature.

And would you believe it? We did it.

So the glasses are on my head, the filter is OFF, and the real Omi is officially coming out of hiding. 👀

WAIT...WHAT?!

One old passport stamp almost changed our trip.

A year earlier, I had traveled to China. By the time my husband and I landed in Marrakech, COVID was just beginning to change the world. My Chinese visa suddenly caught the attention of immigration officials.

While my husband walked through, I was asked to step aside.

There were questions.

Phone calls.

A long wait.

I couldn't control the situation, but I could control my response.

So I stayed calm.

I answered every question honestly and treated everyone with kindness and respect. They were navigating an uncertain moment just as the rest of the world was.

Eventually, they handed back my passport and welcomed me into Morocco.

Looking back, I'm grateful they took the situation seriously.

Travel has taught me that sometimes the greatest lesson isn't found in a destination—it's found in how we respond when the journey doesn't go as planned.
