The first saleswoman I ever knew wasn’t in tech or SaaS.
She was my mum. A trader in Lagos, Nigeria.

2 weeks ago, I was invited to the Women In Sales Awards (Europe) dinner, and being named a 2025 Inside Sales finalist is an honour I don’t take lightly.

What made this recognition even more personal is that I had just returned from a two-week trip to Nigeria after being away for three years. Being back home with my mum, my sister, and her kids, in the place I grew up, filled my heart in ways I didn’t expect.

And somewhere between the hugs and the laughter, it clicked.

My mum was the first saleswoman I ever knew.

My mum started as a stay-at-home mum. When my dad lost his job, she stepped into petty trading to support our family. She tried different businesses before settling on groceries. Her reasoning was simple: people will always eat.

Her shop was a small kiosk made of wood. Right outside our apartment in Festac. Her customers were neighbours. There were 2 other women selling the same things, but she was consistent, dependable, and became the go-to person.

She ran that business while keeping our home together. My dad helped with bookkeeping because she never had a formal education, which is why she was determined that her daughters must get one.

So this recognition is for her. Her resilience, hardwork and diligence is the reason I am here today. Thank you mummy! I love you 🫶🏾 by @omo_yeme

More than the titles, the milestones, or the ambition itself, I want to be a woman who is led by God.

These verses remind me that I do not have to force what is meant for me, hold the weight of everything alone, or let fear have the loudest voice.

I can keep showing up with excellence, protect my peace, and trust God with every step.

Just a reminder to everyone learning how to grow, build, and become without losing herself in the process 🤍
