Ondanaconda is one of those projects that reminds us why we love Geneva’s underground so much. Four musicians taking a single instrument—the jaw harp—and turning it into an entire sonic universe. Bold, radical, playful and completely uncompromising.

The album is an electroacoustic UFO in its own right. But seeing it live is something else entirely: hypnotic, physical, intense… a truly unique experience.

Proud to have this record in the Bongo Joe family.

Second single of the mysterious combo Ondanaconda is out today !!

Between performance and trance, Ondanaconda crafts an unidentified sonic object, somewhere between collective ritual and raw electroacoustic experiment. Each piece emerges from specific combinations of instruments, exploring timbral affinities and rhythmic or harmonic potentials, while leaving room for drift and improvisation. Repetition acts as an unstable engine, bending patterns until they morph into something else.

Our new contribution to the great Outsiders program on so great Bruxelles based @kiosk.radio is now online.

We invited this month @ondanaconda for a 100% Jaw Harp Mix collected and mixed by the band

Jaw harp, an ancient and versatile instrument still vivid worldwide. The selection is neither a documentation nor a best of and does not claim to be exhaustive in any way. We went through a recent history of recordings and some of the musics that shaped our curiosity for this instrument. The jaw harp has been played in a large variety of musics, folk, blues, pop, rock, orchestral and film music, electronic and electroacoustic, and from different angles, thanks to its diversity in shape and sound., as you will notice in the track list below. Songs played by virtuoso soloists using traditional or experimental techniques meet simple yet essential additions in songwriting.
We thought this approach would be a nice way to fulfill this invitation to compose a playlist related to Ondanaconda and our first release as a jaw harp ensemble. We hope you will enjoy listening to it as much as we did during the composition.

Time to reveal a little secret to our beloved underground Geneva scene... We're more than happy to announce the release of Ondanaconda first album !

Ondanaconda does not compose with the jaw harp, but through it. For their self-titled debut album, the quartet turns this lamellophone, often perceived as archaic, into the record’s sole sound source. Found for centuries across continents, from Asia to Europe, the jaw harp is played against the teeth, using the mouth as a resonating chamber, shaping sound through breath and bodily movement. Here, amplified, prepared and sometimes pushed to its limits, it becomes percussion, bass, drone and texture — a true mouth synthesizer with vast possibilities.

Together, all star Geneva-based sound experimentalists Laurent Bruttin, Antoine Läng, John Menoud and Daniel Zea weave a dense, shifting mass where individual voices dissolve into an organic, almost hallucinatory polyphony. Conceived as a continuum, the album unfolds as a hypnotic flow, a physical and immersive music that moves from mouths to bodies, saturating the surrounding space. A radical UFO, at the crossroads of concert, performance and sound installation.

First single Gratitud is out today with the launch of vinyl preoders on our Bandcamp !

Musicien et artiste sonore vivant à Bruxelles. Sa pratique artistique est actuellement centrée sur l'Aulos, un ancien instrument gréco-romain constitué de deux tuyaux à anche double, qui a disparu il y a plus d'un millénaire.

Muzikant en geluidskunstenaar in Brussel. Zijn artistieke praktijk richt zich momenteel op de “aulos”, een raadselachtig Grieks-Romeins instrument met dubbele rietpijpen dat meer dan een millennium geleden verloren is gegaan.
