Back in July 2024, my maternal grandmother Celeste Ondina LaMarche Aristy (the legend & icon), celebrated her 90th birthday with an insanely incredible party. My family asked me to surprise her with a singing performance, so I pulled out an old favorite of hers. Thank you grandma for always encouraging me, and all those around you, to follow our dreams ✨❤️

Our history of connection shapes us…
Director and choreographer of “Move With Pride”, Rebecca ‘Ondina’ Hidalgo, shares brief words on the piece:

“Move With Pride is a dance theatre piece about the importance of queer nightlife, and it’s also about all of our individual relationships to queer nightlife- whether that be good, bad, ugly, beautiful, sexy, sweaty, scary, vulnerable, bright…all of the above. We’re here to take you on a journey through all of our timelines, and we’re here to welcome you into our club…”

Video description: Ondina teaching choreography, clips from vintage queer nightlife scenes in the 1980s, and clips from rehearsals with the full cast.

I’ve had the privilege of working with many wonderful students over the years, and amongst them are the dedicated students of the Söngskóli Sigurður Demetz pre-professional musical theatre program @songleikjadeildin. This was my third year working with them as a choreographer, this time on the classic musical “Anything Goes”/ “Draumur í Dós”.
While some students had previous dance training, the majority of them give or take a few had little to no tap dance training prior to rehearsals starting. This video, of the titular number “Anything Goes” , shows just how much hard work and dedication they put into their craft and took the education seriously. Im a very proud choreographer and teacher!

Their showmanship is also due to wonderful directing and acting training by Orri Huginn @huginn , musical direction by Ingvar Alfreðsson @ingvaralfredsson , and incredible vocal training by Þór Breiðfjörð @thor.breidfjord, Sigga Eyrún @siggaeyrun, and Jóhanna Vigdís @hannadisa.

And last but very certainly not least, this show wouldn’t have been what it was without incredible co-choreographer and dear friend Gabriel Marling Rideout @gabrielmarling , who created some fantastic numbers and was a joy to collaborate with.

Til hamingju öll og BON VOYAGE! Congrats on a wonderful run. taken in Borgarleikhúsið by @ondinathequeen
