2026 Asian IBJJF Double Champion 🥇🥇 Double Gold. Double Americana submissions. 📍Chiba, Japan 🇯🇵.I couldn’t have imagined a more meaningful way to close out my first real PTO vacation of 2026 & celebrate my birthday month🎂 .This journey started in Seoul + Jeju Island and wrapped in Japan, where I got to compete at the Asian IBJJF Championship..This tourney + trip was about so much more than the medals or the food. .Growing up Korean-American, I often struggled with my identity. Before this trip, I had only been to Korea once, when I was 3 years old. Meeting my family for the first time was a dream come true. They welcomed me with open arms, and it filled a part of my heart I didn’t realize had been waiting for this moment..Japan held a different kind of meaning. My dad, who passed away from cancer when I was only 25 years old, was born there, and this month marks 13 years since my mom passed away from cancer. Standing on those mats, I felt their presence. It felt like they were with me every step of the way. Mom + Dad, I miss you so much 🥺❣️ They say it gets easier. It doesn’t. Grief doesn’t get easier you just learn to live around it. 🕊️ Life is short, live it. .Closing out this trip with a JiuJitsu competition wasn’t easy. I had the privilege of sharing the mats with some incredibly talented women who pushed me to be my best. Every match was earned. Fought hard to secure the Americana submissions in my division Finals and the Open Finals. A huge thank you to our incredible team of instructors who dedicate themselves to developing every student at One Jiu Jitsu.With 10–12 coaches on the mats during our preschool and youth classes, our instructor-to-student ratio is second to none. That level of support allows every child to receive individual attention, encouragement, and coaching throughout their journey.Coordinating a coaching staff this large at every tournament isn’t easy, but it’s one of the things that sets our academy apart. We are bringing home triple GOLD🥇🥇🥇I had to compete in a younger age division in Gi to win and my opponent didn’t show for NoGi so won by default. To compete is always a GIFT especially because the past few weeks have been some of the most challenging I’ve faced off the mats..In my professional career, I was tested as a leader - navigating a myriad of challenges while doing everything I could to take care of my team. So grateful for the amazing leaders, franchise partners + colleagues I get to work with every day..So thank you to those who checked in while I was a little MIA… ily.🫶 .The late nights, weekends, and even sacrificing my gym time + JiuJitsu training were all worth it because leadership isn’t about titles or being in charge - it’s about taking care of the people in your charge..So what does that have to do with JiuJitsu?.Everything..JiuJitsu teaches me to stay calm under pressure, keep moving forward, and find a way thru every challenge, on and off the mats..Jiu Jitsu isn’t easy..Life isn’t easy..Every time you step on the mats, you are choosing discomfort, pressure, and problem-solving in real time. The lessons learned through adversity don’t stay on the mats - they carry into everyday life, helping you remain calm, focused, and resilient when life tests you..This tournament tested me. It would have been easy to not show up. But I made a commitment, and when I commit to something, I do it.
