If only we knew what we didn’t know. “If riches be a possession to be desired in this life; what is richer than wisdom, that worketh all things?” Wisdom of Solomon 8:5 by @oneacremiracle

Apparently, the mobile watering pail for the sheep and goats is a good spot to dip your feet, while enjoying s’mores in front of the fire. Who would have known!?… by @oneacremiracle

It’s the star of the show ! By far, this is my most cherished pollinator. Did you know they actually leave bite marks behind… and if you know what your looking for you actually see your precious flowers have been visited. It only takes a little. However, there is such a thing as too much good. In which case the flower structure will fail. Meaning no fruit for you. This is why I strongly encourage many flowering plants to complement a garden, or greenhouse setting. And, last but not least, you will effectively set up a haven for beneficial insects that will help to combat any pest you may encounter. And that’s a win win for you. by @oneacremiracle

Did you know that hydroponic/aquaponic systems can grow plants nearly twice as fast as those in the ground? It’s true… My dream of having an automated aquaponic GH of almost fifteen years is about to finally be realized. I’m so stoked, over being able to take the growing of food to the next level. And, I’m hopeful of having this little project online by the end of the week. We are looking forward to giving updates, and insights on the aquaponic journey. #aquaponics #climapod #greenhouses #marketgarden #homesteading #microfarm by @oneacremiracle

So… if you find your temperature and humidity readings between greenhouse and outdoor conditions are nearly identical, you may have a problem. 😂 As, much as we all look forward to the warmer weather of spring and growing things! This wonderful time of the year, also comes with the threat of having all our hard work undone by this seasonal transition. Aside from a few out of the way, downed trees, and the near mangling of a GH panel, I’ll count my blessings, and hope everyone hangs on to their row covers.☀️🌬⛈☀️ #wind #spring #greenhouse #aquaponic #marketgardens by @oneacremiracle

So, what is one to do with 600,000 tomato cluster supports!?

In optimal tomato production one single plant can average twenty-five trusses. Technically speaking, I’m sitting on enough cluster supports to cover a crop of 24,000 vines! This season I’m only planning for about 120. What to do with such a surplus? Give them away!, of course.

Why cluster supports?… Well… as the fruits develop they begin to add a lot of stress on the stems of the trusses, which more often that not will lead to a kink in the stem. So, what does that mean?, and why should it be a concern? If your serious about production for market, or otherwise, you’ll want to protect your investment. The problem with a kinked stem on your cluster, is that it inhibits the growth and development of your tomatoes. This means you have an inconsistent crop, effecting size and ripping rates. And even worse, the stems can rip away from the vine altogether.

Cluster supports are an essential tool in all large scale commercial operations. And, that’s my pro tip for today!

If any of you locals are interested in using these on your tomatoes this year, let me know, I’ll be happy to give you a box. by @oneacremiracle

Something doesn’t look quite right here… Yesterday’s winds were a bit intense! I’m just glad I arrived at the home front when I did. The vent definitely took some damage, but I’m fairly confident we can escape a somewhat costly replacement. That was one potential disaster averted. The other white knuckle moment involved a silage tarp working it’s way loose. Let me tell you, if one those babies come undone due to high winds, all you can do is hope for the best, and pray it doesn’t create a path of destruction before the wind lies down. I wonder, did everyone else come out okay after yesterday’s gales? by @oneacremiracle

At this time of year, kidding and lambing can be risky business. If labor happens when no one is available to assure the little darlings are dry and suckling, the likelihood of morbidity, is almost certain. This held true for us just a few weeks ago, when one our does happened to labor in the early morning hours. Thankfully, this go around was not the case. It was all due to the diligent observation of my wife Kalyn, who read the signs, and swiftly slipped into midwife mode. Shortly after camp was set, we were gifted with these little miracles. And, with their snazzy DIY sock sweaters, we can all rest easy now. by @oneacremiracle

The goats are quite pleased to be allowed in the garden for clean up time. The fence is down and plants are done.
