Being in conversation with @sofia.thieu makes my brain light up in countless ways. She wrote this stunner of an essay for The Tongue is the Child of the Heart opening at @ninajohnsongallery this Thursday.
“the heart becomes emblematic of a larger cosmology—one defined by continuity, interrelation, and enfolding”
If you get a chance, please take the time to read it and get on the mind/body reintegration train with us ~

I’ve long admired @topicalcream and it’s been a joy to work with @lyndsy_welgos & @elizabeth.wiet on this feature. Their platform for long form art criticism is so meaningful as an artist. Most of all thank you to @_h_mart_ who constantly amazes me with her rigor as a writer and editor and her heart as a wonderful friend - I love talking to you ! 🌿Natural dyes + history + discourse =

In partnership with @theschoolofmakingthinking and led by @oneflewup, this course looks at the social, political, and economic stories behind four dye materials: Haematoxylum campechianum (logwood), Isatis tinctoria (woad), cochineal, and kakishibu (persimmon tannin). Each week, students will dye fabric with one of these materials while tracing its history and the trade routes that spread it around the world.

This is just one of four of our Artist to Artist Workshops this fall. Designed and led by artists, these courses are ideal for anyone looking to build new skills, connect with like-minded people, and grow in an interactive, supportive environment.

🗓️September 28–October 29, Ages 18+ | Monday evenings

Welcome back to Table Mates, where we’ve invited a stellar group of creatives to plan and execute their dream soirées among friends. This month, Sophie Lou Jacobsen (@sophieloujacobsen) and Megumi Shauna Arai (@oneflewup) host a lively dinner party where the fare is all fresh farmers market produce, and the only rule is “Arrive late, stay late.”

for 𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒔 at gmtc-golden monkey trading company 金猿商社, 𝗺𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗺𝗶 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗶 offers 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙥𝙝 𝙚𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚.

hosted in the privacy of her home, 𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗶’s gathering centers the choreography between people, material, silence, space, and gesture. in seeking to imagine “a turbulent immanent field in which various materials collide, congeal, morph, evolve, and disintegrate,” drawing from Jane Bennett’s Vibrant Matter: A Political Ecology of Things, the gathering unfolds through a sequence of actions in which edible matter is transformed into forms and movements that move hand in hand with the concerns arai carefully considers in her own studio practice. rather than seeking to restore wholeness, 𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗶 asks: how can one shift perception to be surprised by what they see?

𝗺𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗺𝗶 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗶 @oneflewup is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in new york city. she is interested in points of encounter, practices of embodiment, enfolding and unfolding aesthetics and the material and immaterial as interconnected.

Celebrate with us tomorrow, April 16, as we make our debut at the Dallas Invitational. Visit us in Room 109 at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek through April 18, where we will be presenting works by Megumi Shauna Arai, Rob Davis, Elsa Hansen Oldham, Minjae Kim, Estefania Puerta, and Katie Stout.

Megumi Shauna Arai’s textile work centers on silk as a dynamic material—dyed, folded, stitched, and painted into a gestural composition that unfolds through movement and a quiet sense of energy.
