In Summer of 2009, at cheer camp, 14 year old Tori was bullied for being gay. I was so far away from home and no one would talk to me, sit with me at lunch, be my stretching/workout partner. I was very much in the closet and filled with panic and self-hate. HOW had they figured it out? What mistake had I made? How did I let guard slip? I denied, and I overcompensated. When I did come out as bisexual 🩷💜💙 I did so because I’d found teachers who had made their classrooms safe spaces to be whoever we were becoming. I started to feel more comfortable with myself little by little. Representation matters! Queer educators are proof of queer futures.I went to college and joined a women’s rugby team. I met strong, powerful, and successful queer women. They are still my role models and my sisters to this day. We have danced at Pride, stood up in each others’ weddings, celebrated the births of their children. Now more than ever, Pride matters. The joyous moments I listed above are under attack. While I know I speak from a position of incredible privilege, the rights of people I love, people you love, people are being stripped away.56 years ago today, the LGBTQ+ community decided enough was enough. 🚲 BLUE BIKES & BITES PT. 6 🚲And where better to celebrate yesterday's National Hot Dog Day than @datdogus 🌭🌭🌭🌭🩵Drinks: I got a cucumber daiquiri 🥒 and Zach got a Jon Daly (think boozy Arnold Palmer) 🍹Food: I got he Son of a Saint Dog — The Swamp Puppy: alligator sausage 🐊 cheddar cheese 🧀 bacon 🥓 grilled onions 🧅 grilled bell pepper 🫑 and Dat Sauce 🧡 Portions of sales of this item go toward the charity @sonofasaintorg who do great work in the city of New Orleans 🧡Zach got a bratwurst and if you don't know what toppings you want/can't decide, you can always ask for chef's choice 👨🏻‍🍳 and let the universe and kitchen staff decide for you ✨And obviously you gotta get a side of tater tots! 🥔•They have a big open courtyard/patio for seating as well which is actually really nice once the sun goes down. 🚲Blue Bikes & Bites pt. 5!🚲•Farmer's Butcher and Farmstand @farmersonthebayou •Was hanging out around Bayou St. John and had to stop into this new little spot! It's like a farmers market that's open every day of the week! Farmers set their prices and can sell directly to the public 👩🏻‍🌾•@shinythingcoffee can be found here ☕️ •Of course I cant resist calling out some of my favorite local spots like bread from @bellegardebakery 🥖 tzatziki from @smokesmokehoneyhoney 💛•They have so many good finds here. 🚲 BLUE BIKES & BITES PT. 4 🚲@bluebikesnola 🩵Pool day at @thecountryclubneworleans ✨Stepping into their backyard oasis, it's sometimes easy to forget that you're in New Orleans and NOT on vacation. Country Club has lots of yummy bites! Like their crab beignets 🦀 or truffle mac n cheese 🤤 but sometimes you wanna keep it light, ya know?
