GROOVE. CONTRAST. ACCENTS. It’s not just about learning the choreography. It’s about discovering what happens between the counts. Exploring the foundations of groove theory: focusing on hip articulation, isolations, rhythmic accents, weight shifts, and the intentional use of stillness is important in the development of commercial and contemporary jazz We’re challenging our dancers to move beyond simply executing steps and begin understanding how to sit in the groove, manipulate musical phrasing, and consider moments of breath and pause as choreo. Because sometimes the greatest impact comes not from how much you move, but from knowing when to move, when to hold, and how to command the space between. 🎶 THE MUSIC HISTORY Originally recorded by The Cookies in 1962, “On Broadway” became an R&B classic through The Drifters’ in 1963. George Benson’s 1978 interpretation brought a distinctive jazz-funk groove to the song, while Broadway productions including Smokey Joe’s Cafe and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical introduced its storytelling to new theatrical audiences. #BroadwayBoundAcademy #CommercialJazz #BroadwayJazz #DanceEducation #MusicalTheatreTraining by @oneillstickup
When we say #triplethreat we mean from EVERY angle. Our in-house #soundengineer Ms Erin set up our brand new wireless system today as we get ready for our opening Company show of the season! We are leveling up this year with getting our kids into mics as we head out for our annual gigs. Adding mics to a students performance is a practice and conditioning all of its own. So excited for our students to be heard in every venue this year! See you there :) 💜BBA Company is a wonderful part of our Non Profit Chapter Shifting Ground and gives our students another wonderful opportunity to practice their triple threat craft, with new material every week: on the road, for various audiences and in new venues. 💜 🌟 If you know a student who should be in BBA Company: auditions happen at the top of every season during triple threat intensive & assessments. #industryfaculty #theatreeducation #danceeducation by @oneillstickup
Above all I adore witnessing the growth in every student I cross paths with but this group right here! THESE are my kids. I have had them since they were 8/9 - when I started at BBA. I have watched them grow & elevate thru my performance classes and into the upper level and take all of the skills and ideas we have spoken on with them. These are my GIRLS. I don’t have kids, but ALL of my students are the best follow up I could ask for. These girls know me, we have the best time together; there is respect, courage and laughter always. And on my worst days they have always had me. Wouldn’t trade watching them grow up for anything. I am blessed & honored. #happynationalteachersday to all the second row parents 💜 by @oneillstickup
#PROUDTEACHER moment • Had the pleasure of designing (& troubleshooting 🤣) this beautiful sonically written show BUT ALSO being able to teach a new A1&2 to run it. Like most shows you work out a lot of “that wasn’t there before” kinks in the first weekend, but I have to say today I happily walked away knowing it was in good hands and that what needed to be heard was. I’m really proud of all these students as a whole team and especially of those in the booth working together to support each other and put on this beautiful show for their castmates of #carriethemusical . Congrats on a wonderful opening weekend & here’s to an even more fantastic second weekend to come!! #theatreeducation #womeninaudio #sounddesign by @oneillstickup

Had a really shit week. 😔 lost my wallet with my license and all the money I made last week. My account was over drawn when my mortgage hit on Wednesday. I’m down to my last few hundred dollars since being laid off. Had to start this mural over because the projector got moved when I wasn’t there. Woke up sick and can’t afford the urgent care bc I don’t have health insurance anymore and then my phone wiped the only copies I had left of an entire music project I did after my hard drive failed. BUT I try to remind myself my momma raised me to do anything & everything for a reason. She raised me to be a survivor & tomorrow will be a new day. #checkonyourfriends #mentalhealth by @oneillstickup
