The people delivering change deserve to experience it, too. 💜
When we invest in youth-led mental health initiatives, we’re doing more than expanding access to support. We’re creating opportunities for young people to develop leadership skills, explore potential career paths, and become advocates within their own communities.
Our first year reinforced the potential of this approach, while also showing us where additional resources and stronger implementation can make a difference.
The next generation of mental health leaders needs opportunities to lead today.

The most meaningful measure of a program’s success comes from the people experiencing it.

At One In Five, student feedback plays an important role in understanding the impact of our youth mental health initiatives and identifying opportunities for growth.

Our students’ 4.4/5 rating is encouraging, but what matters most is what we’re learning from their experiences.

Their perspectives help us better understand how meaningful peer connections, mentorship, and opportunities for personal growth can shape mental well-being.

We’re proud of the feedback we’ve received, and we’re equally committed to listening, learning, and improving.

When young people have a voice in shaping the programs designed for them, we create opportunities for more meaningful and lasting impact.

Listening doesn’t require agreement. 💬

Sometimes, the most supportive thing we can do is make space for someone else’s feelings—even when we see the situation differently.

Validation isn’t about deciding who’s right or wrong. It’s about saying, “I hear you. I understand why you feel that way.”

We don’t have to share someone’s perspective to make them feel seen, respected, and heard. ❤️

Not every result moves in the direction we expect—and that’s exactly why evaluation matters. 💡

In our first-year program evaluation, Growth Mindset showed a modest decline, with one question around whether intelligence is fixed or can change playing a major role in the result.

Rather than seeing that as a failure, we see it as information. It gives us a clearer picture of where students may need more support and where our programming can grow.

At One in Five, we’re using what we learned to strengthen how we talk about learning, ability, setbacks, and personal growth moving forward. 🌱

Because sometimes the most valuable data isn’t the data that tells you everything worked—it’s the data that shows you where to go next.

The memory stays. But the way it lives in you can change. 🧠💛

Healing doesn’t mean rewriting the past or pretending something didn’t hurt. Through therapy, we can begin to process the emotions, beliefs, and responses connected to difficult experiences — so remembering doesn’t always have to feel like reliving.

You can’t change what happened. But you can change the relationship you have with what happened.

Emotions aren’t a traffic light. 🚦 We don’t need to sort them into green emotions we’re allowed to feel and red emotions we need to stop.

Anger, sadness, jealousy, frustration, and fear can all tell us something about what’s happening inside us. When young people are taught to hide the “bad” ones, they may learn how to look okay before they learn how to actually be okay.

The goal isn’t to feel the “right” emotions. It’s to learn what to do with the ones that show up. 💙 by @onein_five

The people we turn to can shape how we understand our own experiences. Support isn’t just about having someone willing to listen—it’s also about the patterns we build together over time.

Learning how to support each other in ways that create perspective, connection, and forward movement is a skill worth developing.

Support can come from a good place and still feel unsafe.

When a young person feels rushed, watched, minimized, misunderstood, or treated like a problem to solve, reaching out can start to feel harder than staying quiet.

Creating safer support doesn’t always mean having the perfect advice. Sometimes it means listening without rushing, making space without judgment, and being willing to understand before trying to fix.

The way we respond matters.

Some of the hardest parts of a young person’s day can happen in the moments adults barely notice.

Passing periods. Walking into a crowded hallway. Wondering who you’ll run into. Trying to find where you belong. Carrying the last interaction with you into the next class.

Youth mental health is shaped by more than what happens at home or inside the classroom. The spaces in between matter, too.

Creating safer, more supportive school environments starts with recognizing the stress young people may be carrying—even when we can’t see it. 💜

You’ve survived days you once thought would break you. ❤️

Growth isn’t always loud. Sometimes it looks like getting out of bed, asking for help, setting a boundary, or simply trying again after a hard day.

Take a moment today to recognize how far you’ve come. The progress you rarely notice is often the progress that matters most.

Be proud of the version of you that kept going. 🌱

Some conversations don’t start with, “I’m struggling.”

They start with:
• “I’m just tired.”
• “I feel like I’m falling behind.”
• “I don’t think anyone gets it.”
• “I can’t stop comparing myself.”

When we create spaces where people feel safe enough to say those things out loud, something changes.

Not every problem gets solved in one conversation. But being heard can make carrying it feel a little less heavy.

Mental health conversations don’t have to begin with a crisis. Sometimes they begin with honesty.
