One year ago, I started One Luv Açaí.

After closing @oliviarestaurant.la about 2 yrs ago, I hit rock bottom and pretty much lost everything I worked hard for. And after about a year of resetting and figuring things out, I reached out to my friend @scotty.hsieh from @tadaa.coffee in Frogtown who graciously let me use an extra food trailer at his cafe to test out new concepts. I first tried kimchi grilled cheese sandwich… and that flopped. Then I remembered a delish açaí bowl I had in Maui over 10 years ago and decided to give that a try.

Fast forward one year, and One Luv Açaí, (named after my favorite artist Bob Marley’s song, One Love) has taken me on an incredible journey. From serving immigrant workers outside Home Depot to supporting Asian American athletes @amaznhq, overnight raves w/ @6amgroup, day party w/ @goyo.club, yoga, Pilates, 5K run @amcffoundation, pickleball, Frogtown art crawl w/ @frogtownarts and community events w/ @kyccla, I’m grateful for every person and connections I’ve met along the way.

There were days I couldn’t sell a single bowl and moments I questioned whether I should keep going. Those thoughts still creeps into my mind sometimes. But I have a vision that’s bigger than today’s setbacks, and that keeps me showing up.

To everyone who’s supported and believe in One Luv this past year, thank you. Here’s to continuing to build community, one bowl at a time -Dan 🫶 taken in Los Angeles, California by @oneluvacai

Full-circle moment. 🏈

I played cornerback in high school and was one of the few Asian athletes on my team. We actually played against this same school in Manhattan Beach—I still remember making my first tackle on this field. That season, we went undefeated and broke our school’s record.

Years later, I found myself back here serving One Luv Açaí at the inaugural @amaznhq Football Showcase.

Seeing talented Asian American high school athletes learning from NFL players, legendary Coach Norm Chow, and mentors is something I wish we had growing up.

A huge thank you to @amaznhq for the opportunity and, more importantly, for everything they do to showcase, support, and create opportunities for Asian American athletes. Representation matters, and events like this help inspire the next generation.

Honored to play a small part in fueling these athletes. 💜🏈🥣 #oneluvacai #asianscanballtoo taken in Mira Costa High School by @oneluvacai
