Excited to share that Light To Life has been recommended for funding by Morgan CARES! 🎉 @morgan_cares_ @morganstateu to conduct international research and programming.

We’re bringing our gender-responsive, trauma-informed program to women survivors of intimate partner violence in El Salvador women’s prison. Together, we’re building pathways to healing and breaking victimization ties to incarceration. 💜

Over the past year, I have had the honor of working alongside movement leaders from across the country to help shape a collective vision for the next chapter of our nation.

On June 27, people from across the country will gather in Washington, D.C. for the @next250us National Mobilization—a day rooted in democracy, dignity, belonging, justice, and our shared humanity.

As a survivor, organizer, mother, and founder of Light To Life, I believe our communities deserve a seat at the table when we talk about the future of this country.

They want to provide for their families. They just need the space - and the support - to do it. 💜

In this video, the administrator of El Terminal shares the ongoing effort to help low-income women—many of them single mothers—legally register their businesses so they can sell, grow, and support their families. But the biggest barrier? A lack of resources. 📚

This mirrors what we’ve heard throughout our healing initiative:
💜 70% of women identified financial instability as a major challenge.
💜 Many asked for business training, job skills programs, and leadership development.
💜 Youth also called for vocational training, access to markets, and basic support for food and education.

Light To Life is responding. ✨ We’re raising funds to launch a Women’s Workforce Training Center and build economic support systems that empower women and youth with the tools to create lasting change.

This Center will provide:

💜 Emergency Shelter: Trauma-informed, safe housing for women and children
💜 Mental Health & Healing Services: Culturally competent therapy and healing circles
💜 Workforce & Entrepreneurship Training: Building pathways to economic security
💜 Legal Navigation & Advocacy: Fighting for survivor, immigration rights, and systemic change
💜 Community-Based Research: Amplifying the lived experiences of survivors to inform future policy

Light To Life is asking for YOUR help 💜

Our healing initiative in El Salvador began with a mission: to support survivors of gender-based violence through listening sessions, Relationship Spectrum Workshops, and collaborative solutions.

Through these activities, one thing became clear - healing must include economic empowerment. 💸

Over 70% of women we spoke to identified financial instability as a major barrier to healing. Many also expressed a strong desire for business training and leadership development to drive community-led change. ✊🏽

At El Terminal, we saw this potential in action. The Terminal houses more than 4,000 women-run businesses providing everything from food and beauty services to essential goods. However, nearly half remain unregistered, limiting their access to resources, training, and long-term sustainability.

In this video, our CEO Tenaj Moody shares why we’re raising funds to launch a Women’s Healing Health Center, where experienced business owners mentor others in entrepreneurship and financial literacy.

We ended Day 3 at The Terminal - a vibrant marketplace powered by over 4,000 women-led businesses, many of them family-run and passed down through generations. 💜

From pupusa vendors and beauty booths to supply stands, these women meet everyday needs with unmatched strength, kindness, and grace. Their entrepreneurial spirit is woven with deep care for their community.

We met incredible mothers, daughters, and grandmothers - some just getting started, others building on family legacies. Yet nearly 2,000 of these businesses remain unregistered due to limited access to resources that could help them grow.

We want to change that. ✨ Light To Life, in partnership with @ieproes.sv & @steamabroad, is raising funds to provide tools, training, and business support to help these women thrive.

Our workshops are more than just lessons - they’re a movement. After one session, young people are gaining clarity on self-worth, consent, and how to spot unhealthy relationships.

💜 Every young person understood their boundaries and knows they deserve respect.

Day 2 of the International Healing Initiative in El Salvador: 60% of mothers shared experiences of gender-based violence, with 40% eager to step into leadership roles for change.

Through our listening sessions, we gathered powerful insights on the need for prevention to begin at home, in schools, and within communities.

The community of mothers emphasized the importance of trauma-informed education, mental health support, and creating safe spaces for open dialogue. 💜

Healing is closely linked to economic independence, justice, and support systems. These voices are shaping the path forward, inspiring culturally-rooted solutions for Salvadorian communities and beyond. 🗒️

Day 1 in El Salvador was rooted in awareness, education, and empowerment for the next generation. 💜

We spent the day with @ieproes.sv and an incredible group of teens and their parents - holding space for honest dialogue and leading interactive workshops that shed light on how gender-based violence can show up in relationships.

Through our Relationship Spectrum Workshop, we explored the differences between healthy, unhealthy, and abusive dynamics. Participants shared their own definitions of healthy relationships and received practical tools for dating violence prevention.

We ended the day with our listening session, where small group discussions gave youth and parents the chance to share their needs, offer feedback, and help shape how Light To Life can better support them moving forward.

Creating an intentional space to connect with the youth was truly heart-warming. They carry the power to a better future for everyone & we are honored to be a part of their journey. ✨

Our time in El Salvador was a powerful 4-day journey of listening, learning, and healing with incredible women and our amazing partners at @ieproes.sv 💜

The amazing team at @ieproes.sv. is a higher education institution committed to developing skilled, ethical, and socially conscious health professionals, IEPROES shares our belief in the power of healing-centered work to transform lives.

This partnership allowed us to engage in listening sessions and Relationship Spectrum workshops that explored the roots of gender-based violence while celebrating the strengths these women already carry.

Together, we’re planting seeds of safety, joy, and healing—laying the foundation that can support future programs across communities in need.

The power of building community is healing. Our first day in El Salvador we centered Youth voices to prevent teen dating violence.

Our incredible hosts—members of one of our partner organizations, The Specialized Institute of Health Professionals (@ieproes.sv)—welcomed us with open arms. IEPROES is a higher education institution dedicated to training the next generation of compassionate health professionals.

We had the chance to explore the beauty of El Salvador alongside them before launching into our first round of listening sessions and our Relationship Spectrum workshop. 🌏

Day 1 was all about the YOUTH. Our hearts are still full after connecting with a vibrant group of teens as we guided them through activities focused on understanding and addressing teen dating violence.

To close the day, our Founder @janetbackwards shared her powerful story of resilience and gifted IEPROES staff with a copy of her best-selling book “Carry It With You” (learn more at the link in bio).

Their curiosity, courage, and willingness to learn reminded us of the strength and promise within the next generation.
