NEW INTERVIEW

With BIGSOUND just around the corner, we have so many incredible interviews to share. Check out One of One's latest interview with Label Manager at @truepanther , Kelley Lin.

@kellerylin began her career cold-emailing labels and companies while studying music business at NYU, stacking internships at Warp Records, mtheory, Save The Music Foundation and MATTE Projects before eventually texting her resume directly to the founder of True Panther and asking for a job. Three months later she joined as the label's second full-time employee, and four years on she is at the helm of its day-to-day operations.

In this interview, Kelley speaks openly about the challenges of being an Asian woman in an industry that still lacks diversity, the steep learning curve of her first year in a full-time music role, and what it felt like to watch the Oklou album campaign (one of the most stressful projects of her career) land to immediate acclaim.

She also shares her honest take on the state of independent labels right now, and why ethical monetisation and career sustainability have never been harder to navigate.

NEW INTERVIEW

With BIGSOUND just around the corner, we have so many incredible interviews to share. Check out One of One's latest interview with music journalist, critic and co-host of Punk This Week, Nina Corcoran.

@nina_corcoran_ began her career writing album reviews and interviewing local bands for Boston's alt-weekly DigBoston while still at college, cold-emailing publications with pitches and landing her first freelance work before she'd even graduated. Since then she has contributed to Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, NPR, Stereogum and Consequence, joining Pitchfork as an associate staff writer in 2021 while continuing to freelance alongside it.

In this interview, Nina speaks candidly about the state of music criticism in 2026, why she believes it matters more than ever in an age of AI-generated summaries, and what she wishes aspiring music journalists actually understood about building a career in the field. She also reflects on one of the most humbling moments of her career and the lesson it taught her about finding a throughline in your writing.

For anyone who has ever wondered what music journalism looks like from the inside, this is the interview to read.

NEW INTERVIEW

With @bigsound just around the corner, we have so many incredible interviews to share with you over the coming weeks. First up, check out One of One's latest interview with Senior Editor at Bandcamp Daily and host of The Indie Show, Mariana Timony.

Mariana Timony began her career writing about the local music scene in Los Angeles, founding a publication dedicated to the city's underground community before moving into booking and promoting punk and garage shows. That DIY foundation eventually led her to Bandcamp, where she joined as social media producer for the then-brand new Bandcamp Daily in 2016 and was promoted to Senior Editor in 2021.

Today she oversees editorial at Bandcamp Daily, hosts The Indie Show on Bandcamp Radio, and curates Bandcamp Notes, a Substack newsletter inspired by 90s zines and alt-weeklies focused on music discovery. Everything she does is shaped by a deep belief in underground culture, direct-to-fan connection and surfacing the artists and scenes that wouldn't get a shot anywhere else.

In this interview, Mariana speaks about what it takes for an unsigned artist to earn editorial attention, why she is drawn to artists who haven't already been picked up by the hype machine, and how Bandcamp's model shapes the way she thinks about music coverage and discovery.

For anyone trying to build a career in music media, her advice is as direct as her editorial instincts: do it yourself, show up for your local scene, and never underestimate the connections you make along the way.

"Every now and then, after what feels like a thousand setbacks, you get one step forward. Those moments feel incredibly special, and they're what keep me going through the next thousand knockbacks."

NEW INTERVIEW

Check out One of One's latest interview with artist and producer, @umbramoon

Umbra Moon spent their early years studying music production and writing their own music before a trip to an international songwriting week in Germany changed everything. They returned home without a job, without a plan, and with just enough savings to buy a speaker and the equipment she needed to start busking. Three years later, performing at Bourke Street Mall up to five days a week, that decision had launched their career.

Since then, they have headlined shows around Australia, performed on festival stages and continued to develop their production work, all while staying grounded in the consistency they believes is at the heart of any lasting music career.

In this interview, Umbra speaks openly about the daily challenges of staying motivated in an industry built on highlights, the thousand knockbacks that come before every step forward, and why showing up even when progress feels invisible is what separates those who make it from those who don't.

With a debut album in the works and a dream to perform at festivals around the world, Umbra Moon is proof that sometimes the silliest little dream is the one most worth chasing.

"There were so many talented artists who weren't getting the recognition or opportunities they deserved. That motivated me to get involved beyond performing."

NEW INTERVIEW

Check out One of One's latest interview with artist manager, DJ and founder of @6kmc_ and @musibledistribution, Rachel Goad.

@rachelgoad began her career DJing underground hip-hop and rap shows across Perth while simultaneously building 6KMC as a creative media agency, documenting and celebrating the local music scene through write-ups, YouTube premieres and live performance sessions. As her network grew, so did her understanding of what artists actually needed, and 6KMC evolved naturally into a full-service artist management agency.

In 2022, she launched Musible to further support independent artists through distribution and music services, expanding the pathways available to artists looking to grow both locally and internationally. Along the way, she has worked across community radio at RTRFM and FBi Radio, championing emerging talent from another corner of the industry.

In this interview, Rachel speaks about the incredible talent coming out of Western Australia, the work still needed to create stronger global pathways for artists from the state, and why seeing an artist reach a goal they've worked towards never gets old.

With Kayps' debut album BUNUBA BABY dropping August 14th (the first album Rachel has worked on from start to finish) the rest of 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting chapters of her career yet.

“Really incredible things can come from the intentional use of every single dollar.”

INDIE-CON MINI SERIES

Check out One of One’s latest feature with artist manager and marketing creative, Sophie Brown.

Sophie Brown believes that a smaller budget is not a limitation. It’s an invitation to think more carefully, more creatively and more specifically about what actually matters to fans. From a free Ecca Vandal show in an 80-capacity burger shop to a Denzel Curry screenprinting activation at a festival, her work consistently puts experience over metrics.

In this feature, Sophie reflects on the misconceptions around independent resources, the value of asking questions and staying curious, and why the most meaningful marketing leaves people with something tangible long after the campaign ends.

A speaker at AIR’s Indie-Con this year, Sophie’s approach is a masterclass in doing more with intention.
